well 74 mil is paid out a year in foodstamps and checks in this county! the other million is for teacher salaries and their salaries do not include supply funding, but yet parents expect them to provide their children with klenex, sanitizer, etc!?!? How about showing a little support for your childs teacher and providing them with the supplies that your child needs for school!!!!!!!! It's not the teacher's place to buy them either, but that's what always ends up happening because of parents like you who think that you are entitled to a handout everytime you turn around, or don't think for a second to ask your childs teacher if they need anything else in the middle of the school year when that 1 pkg of pencils that you bought at the beginning of the school year has been gone for weeks and the teacher is having to take money away from their own child to pay for what your child needs! If you want your child to have clean hands, and a kleenex to wipe their nose on BUY IT!!!!!!!!! but if you don't buy it, don't complain when your child gets a runny nose from nasty hands and not given a kleenex to wipe it on! Use some common sense if you can before you speak, please?!?!

^^^^Clueless twit the SCHOOL should be supplying the cleaning supplies WITH THAT TAX MONEY... no where in that post did the guy say a damn thing about tissues and sanitizer so your 'common sense' is pretty much FRIED,and that's only if you ever had any to begin with - seeing as your reading comprehension skills are obviously sorely lacking - so please stop embarrassing yourself by babbling common NONsense, yourself. lol No doubt you are a teacher here with how STUPID you come across. smh

reread his post dumb butt, he said SANITIZER AND TOILET PAPER!!! GEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ and you tell me that I need some comprehension skills? that's why you my friend are not a teacher! The only reason that a teacher would ask for toilet paper is bc it is cheaper that a box of kleenex an does the same job! COMPREHENSION, and sanitizer is well used as sanitizer idiot!

I have three children in the school system and I do not care a bit to bring in the kleenex, band aids, etc that the teachers ask for. After all my child will be using it and if they weren't at school I would be buying it for my home anyway. Why do most of you feel that it is the schools responsibility to supply your child with these things? You, my friend, are the parent and ultimate provider. Not the Campbell County Board of Education.
This is why I love CC

"yeah - what the - lol" echoes the feelings that most people have in the Campbell County area about our education system. Too often people in our area look at the school system and displace all their anger at the way their lives turned out toward the entity that is the CCBOE. I have a shit job (reason: "they didn't teach me nothing up at the school"), those teachers make to much, if you label sub $30,000 to much for a degree bearing position. It is not the school fault your life sucks, we should be grateful that we have an education system that allows every one the chance at a free education.

^^^^^ exactly guys/gals, this town is so use to getting handouts I guess they expect the teachers to buy EVERYTHING for their children. Here is a piece of advice for parents complaining about how much things cost: IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR YOUR OWN CHILDS FOOD, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, INSURANCE, HOUSING, ETC. DON'T HAVE ANY!!!!!!!! The items cost the same amount no matter who buys them, but I WILL NOT buy for anyone elses child, I have my own to pay for! And just to clear everything up, teachers DO NOT get supplies from the BOE, all they provide teachers with (some of the time, when they buy it) is toilet paper and rarely paper towels! NOTHING ELSE! Your bad judgment in life, leaving you unable to pay for your child(ren) isn't an emergency on my part, PAY YOUR OWN WAY!

and another thing, most of the people that complain about the cost of school supplies and slam teachers, I bet they all smoke, dring, and/or do drugs! How about putting your child first and do without YOUR WANTS and get your CHILDS NEEDS! Just the other day a chick had of fb about her getting a new dress that she "loves" and posts a pic with her wearing it, in the same post she asked where she could get some free school supplies for her 2 kids!?!?!? Well chick I guess the same place you just bought YOUR new outfit! Geez people kill me ugh!

I totally agree with "what the". We are not made of money. In fact we are a one income family until I get through school, but my children have brand new clothes and new back packs and new shoes and supplies. But guess where MY OWN shoes come from.....Goodwill...on 50% off day.:) Do I mind??? Not in the least!!! My children come first ALWAYS. And always will.

No. Our tax money that is allocated to the public school systems - let's not forget the portion of LOTTO money revenue that's also partially allocated to public schools - whether the tax payer has children or not that attend them, are the funds of which such supplies such as toilet paper (good grief) and sanitizer (USE IT plz btw... I dread the usual rash of illnesses that always circulate like wildfire starting the day school opens. Just, damn.) SHOULD be covered for ALL students, and YES through the school systems. What part of that is so hard to conceptualize? These are basic necessities, NOT luxuries. They have PROMETHEAN boards but not enough toilet paper, and sanitizer?

Goes along with continuing using severely outdated beaten up text books, and not even enough of those to go around let alone a child be able to take home to study. Ridiculous, and yes insulting.

For instance, HOW many millions were spent on CCHS building renovations, but what? The food is still really lousy. Who would be delusional to come to the logical conclusion that there would be an improvement in the quality of food, prep, and offerings when there's a new hella expensive brand new kitchen FINALLY installed?(sarcasm - both of my kids got sick on the sandwiches they ate for lunch from them while the construction was still underway. same as they became seriously ill the year before when seated freezing for months while THAT was under way. Don't get me started on WHY they wait til the last second before school starts to begin such projects)

Seriously? Can't afford to install stationary sanitizer foams on the walls near doors (for example, like you see in doc offices et al.) for all to use, let alone supply enough toilet paper for all, from the same TAX PAYER based sources such as those of us that we parents or non parents have pay into same as to pay their salaries?

"what the" you say you refuse to pay for anyone else's child to have toilet paper or sanitizer in school, WE ALREADY DO...but, even if we didn't, do you honestly think the teacher that's 'begging' these supplies is for YOUR kid's personal use only? That other kids will be disallowed the use of those things as if they're going to vault it away for your kid and only disburse it to specifically YOUR kid when they need it? You're kidding.... right?

I'm telling y'all it's not the teacher's fault that education has taken a turn. As in most places there are a few in the bunch that give everyone else a bad name, but parents need to step up to the plate and support their children and teachers! I am not saying that parents should do the teachers job, just that a positive attitude toward school and education CAN go a long way! Trust me there is an issue when you have a school with 800 students and only 2 parents show up for the PTO meeting after school! and when only 2 kids out of a classroom live with their bio parents, well that says it all! kids are like adults in many ways, if we have a lot on our minds we can't function properly! When children are forced to deal with adult problems and issues, then we as society have failed that child. Everyone in America is aware of these issues, but they seem to be magnified in our community bc of the sheer number of people neglecting their children and being in legal trouble bc of drugs! I personally have saw people that I went to school with and not recognized them bc they look like they are 60yrs old and they are actually 30 yrs old. So shocking to see such destruction among our society! I just don't get it, who would want to rot their own teeth out, have their bones sticking out bc they don't eat, wrinkle up like a prune, have sores all over their faces, and look like a dead person walking?! The sad part is that they walk around like they are super models lol! but the not so funny thing is that they never live very long, probably will die before they are 40. SO SAD that all of these kids are seeing their bio parents die such a miserable death that can be controlled and prevented! Now if that doesn't affect a child, then I don't know what would. Then we expect them to go to school everyday and be rocket scientists, this country has a rude awakening coming down the pike!

what tax money are you talking about? In case you hadn't noticed not many people in this county actually work! I would estimate ( by taking a look at the banks, electric dept, and walmart on check days 1&3) that 70% of Campbell County get a check and/or work under the table. and when people spend foodstamps (paying no tax) it only leaves clothing to pay tax on, and even then people go to yard sales, flee markets, goodwill, charities, etc. to get those items, and paying little to no tax! This is what happens when people don't think through what they say. There is no tax on government checks and benefits, thus taking away a majority of tax revenue for this county. If everyone worked and paid their own part in life, then yes our school system would probably provide everyone with what they need!I understand that older people have worked all of their lives to get their ss check, but they DIDN'T work all of those years to support younger able bodied people with lazyitus! Sorry for the rant but it's time to call a spade a spade people!!

That may be true locally, however "what tax money are you talking about?" is a ridiculous question. If YOU have a legit paycheck, you apparently do not understand how to discern what taxes you are paying into. FED income tax monies are allocated TO individual states whether any given state takes state taxes or not. And, AGAIN, there is STATE lotto revenues which clearly indicate a portion goes to support public school systems. Do I really need to reiterate the use of FED stimulus monies that were allocated to CC, last year alone?

Never mind. Either way, this county is a lose/lose situation from floor-to-ceiling, and wall-to-wall. Throwing money at the problems that overrun working people, and the citizens that are collecting state assistance by above board legitimate means, and needs, will only lose as we are in the minority here. You're reminding us of it accomplishes exactly what?

You didn't address my question of your assuming that what you send to school with your child as in such as toilet paper and sanitizer is to be used strictly for YOUR child only, as you refuse to help another child in need, regardless of why that child is in need (... it's 1 extra roll of toilet paper, on you, for pete's sake) says much more about yourself then the statistics you report (even tho maybe accurate) of failure to parent effectively because of drug abuse, willful neglect, et al.

I understand your frustration, I feel it too. But, if I were to say that I am unemployed, straight, educated, but have to 'bank' on state assistance (even after 30 yrs of gainful employment) YOU would label ME as 'waste of space useless garbage' and take it out on MY kids should my electric bill for instance be to far a stretch for my budget over the summer months (using this as an example because this summer has been astoundingly hot) of which I have no control over, so have to cut corners SOME where and that would have to be buying anything extra let alone feeling stressed enough that I couldn't cover what I once was able to for just my child's clothing or whatnot, so toilet paper and sanitizer will have to be crossed off the list because I would prioritize clothing and writing materials beforehand.. oh wait.. unless I took up the offer of free supplies to those in need .. THEN I could do the extra toilet paper etc... there's YOU to contend with with your IGNORANT MYOPIC GENERALIZATIONS about me and mine even though my kids are in no way at fault for MY tough times in THIS economy, but slam on my kids for having less then yours, so your toilet paper and sanitizer is off limits to my child should they so much as sneeze around your child during school.

See. That knife cuts both ways. Your estimation of 'dead beat loser parents' attitude, just grew the hella problem that kills CC, from 70% to 90%.

YOU, and those of your ilk, are as much a part of the problem as to why CC is such an educational, and economical FAIL aside from the national economic downturn, as the intentionally slack, state and drug abusing negligent parents are. We ALL lose... most especially those that deserve it the least. Kudos.

So done with this thread, and those like yourself let alone with the drug abusers et al.

Throws this trash site altogether into the trash bin where it belongs, wow. Good night, and good riddance.

you are correct about how the school system spends monies allocated to them, they are wasteful! They spent well over $500,000 on professional development training last year, BIG WASTE! and I do also agree that there are issues from corner to corner of this county, but again it is not the teachers fault. If people take issue with it, they need to call central office and talk to the school board members! that is why members were voted out the other night! We ALL want changes in the school system, but we would like support from the public to back us up! Teachers don't like asking for things other than pencil and paper but when the children need it and the boe doesn't supply it, then it falls on the teacher to pay for it out of their own personal paycheck! That is in no way fair to anybody, teacher or student!

The majority of the professional dev. programs are grant monies that are injected into the budget. If the citizens would be smart enough to know they NEED a tax increase for the school system them the system itself could run smoother. Until then we can just nickel and dime everything.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Capricorn

You're feeling slightly unconventional and you're looking for activities that will reflect your mood. You certainly won't be very keen on doing things that are drearily predictable or boring, although you'll grit your teeth and get on with them if you have no choice. But ideally you should do things on the spur of the moment, preferably in the company of people who make you feel alive and alert.
