Is it worth paying this debt if it has gone to collections?I have a medical bill that has gone to collections. I can't afford to pay it and that's why it ended up in collections. It's $485, might not be a lot to you, but I'm a poor college kid. I know that you can request that if you pay the item, you can have it removed from your credit history. The woman I spoke with today from the credit agency said if I opted for a payment plan, it could not be deleted from my credit report, but would instead be marked, "debt paid in full." I have a feeling she is lying. Now, I have been told, and have found through my research, that if collections account still remains on your report, even if it is paid, it does not help your credit. I don't see a point in paying this debt I cannot afford if it's not going to improve my credit. Does anybody know if they can remove something from your credit even if you opt for a payment plan? And yes, I know you should always get it in writing before you pay them a dime so they don't screw you.
