I do not like to be the bearer of bad news to my fellow citizens of Lumberton, but the sell of alcohol in the city will not increase nor decrease the likelyhood of an officer being struck by a drunk driver, in case you forgotten, they (drunk drivers) come thru hourly from the north and south to go home folks. You can look at the statistics it won't change either way, our officers are a bit more alert in our community if you notice more often than not or Police pull vehicles off the road altogether. THATS the reason none, thank GOD, have ever been hit. Near misses are not report folks ask and officer how many close calls have happened. It will chill you that wish to keep higher and higher taxes in place.

Lumberton is alway changing! The people in this community need to allow the change and embrace it! We have NO INDUSTRY!! Who do you think is going to have to pay for the Schools, the roads, and all the fine amenities this city pays for! Who do you think will have to be TAXED for the payroll to pay the officers, the local officials, and the maintenance crews. This simply lets the city and area get the revenue that is already traveling down the highway! It does not change the Amount of Alcohol in Lumberton. This town as I was growing up was known for two things... religion and prejudice! We have the prejudice still here, not as pronounced, but its still in the air unfortunately! The Religious part has taken too many steps to control issues that are important to the development and economical growth of our town. Lumberton is not slowing down, it never will. We need to embrace the growth and let it bring the many positive things. Things like businesses.... jobs.....and a place to have nice gathering without traveling to Beaumont. Beaumont is not that far, but at $3.00 a gallon in fuel, it gets farther away! Lets be real and put this to rest!! We did not vote to put it in town!! These groups have ruined that for the businesses on Main st and 96! Now the growth will follow the more desirable locations for large chains. We voted and you guys had nothing to do with it! Thats the way it should remain! Props goes out to the group that got the signatures.... that proved we wanted it anyway. Quit trying to Control our future! Lumberton is one the fastest growing communities in TEXAS as if we didn't know. The growth will continue with or without the sale of Alcohol. And you guessed it, the Beer will come, the Alcohol will come, it will be the same only WE BENEFIT!
How many of you that are opposing this are opening a cold one this weekend!! How many of you are tired of driving out of town to get a nice meal, a movie, or something that Wal-Mart doesn't carry! At this point how many are terrified at the gas pump to go to Beaumont? How many of your friends, family, and supporters will be economically impacted by this Groups Effort?
I agree with the fact and statement that none of us want to see our Officers, kids, and loved ones hit by drunks! Don't want to see anyone getting hit by a drunk! The alcohol passes North and South! That will never end and the danger has always been there! Our local officers and state officers face that danger now and have been for decades! More revenue, more police officers, better prevention!!
We voted it in! It should Stay!
