should we is my 1st question? How close is it to canada? Is it very expensive living there?
I will be out of nursing school next year and considering moving there. I'm not much on the governor there but thats no issue now.

does it get really cold there in the winter? Are there good schools and doctors/hospitals there?

thanks

It's a day's ferry ride from Anchorage, and a few days from the other ports. Unless you own a plane, and even then, it's a bit of a ride. Your major, or mainly only, retailer is Walmart, and expensive is a relative term... Fruit is expensive, bananas are a commodity.
The winter is way colder than Missouri, and starts much sooner and lasts much longer. And you'll have to get used to the sun cycles, however thermo-curtains really help that problem. The Highschool is good, and the college there is really well kept, considering. I had an injury and went to the hospital there, and while it seemed understaffed, it was very clean, and everyone I met was very nice.
I would definatly suggest a week long visit before you make any decisions.
The culture is definatly different from the Lower 48. It is very laid back and relaxed. Everyone you meet is a character, and there's as much privacy as you would have in a city, however it still has that small town feel(because it's such a small town!) The population consists of many free-spirits, and Tags, who are people from the Phillapines. There is beautiful, open, wild nature, and adventure is very close and free! There's also a fabulous bakery with a world-famous pastry artist, and this is your wifi-hotspot. There's also a computer lab at the library.

good luck.
