Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to resign by August

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday she is resigning from office at the end of the month, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race.

I'd like to see what she does now. What is so interesting abot the Palin situation is that nobody even knew who she was before she was picked by McCain. Since Obama was voted into office people have violate 15 ethics complaints against her, all have been dismissed. What womens group has stood up for her, none. It proves that you have to be a liberal woman to have the feminist movement stand behind you.

I don't know the all the details but Alaska has lost a great govenor, Alsaska is facing only a, standby, 450 million dollar deficit. Compare that to California's 24 billion dollar hole. For Alsaska that isn't a big broblem. At least Palin was smart enough to drill for oil so they'll find their way out.

With the two major republican front runners having gone down in flames due to wide scale adultery and being exposed as the hypocrites that they are this leaves Sarah Palin as the last hope for the Republicans. She is everything they want, ultra religious, not terribly bright, good looking, and a total nut job who is more than amenable to special interest groups, and who will happily sell out any principals she may have to get ahead.

I hope she doesn't have a chance, I hope that America grows up in 4 years and if they do elect a republican, it will be an old school republican, someone who is fiscally conservative and wants to reduce the size of the government rather than someone who wants to trample our rights in the name of god, and push a moral agenda that they don't even adhere to. Sadly the last 20 years or so has seen a massive mobilization of the religious into the political realm and the last 8 have been spent by pundits like Rush beating the war drums and whipping some of these religious whack jobs into a violent fervor. Now with Obama at the helm the far right religious idiots feel that the war that they were told was coming is now on. They no longer are placated by feeling they have a voice in power and are lashing out in any way that they can. Two people with strong religious convictions and ties to far right nationalist movements have committed terrible murders and they are just the tip of the iceberg I fear.

I object to palin not because of party politics, but because she is what is wrong with this country. The republican party needs to get back to its roots and stop attracting these dangerous religious whack jobs. They need to stop trying to put god in the white house and stop trying to push a moral agenda. Palin will not bring that party back, she will only serve to polarize the nation and drive the republican party further into the ditch.

Alaska didn't "lose" their governor, she walked off the job with 18 months left to serve. The senior Alaskan senator (Republican) is furious. It’s not easy arguing with a liberal because you do not use facts. I’m going to go out on a limb and ASSUME you know a few.

Palin’s stance on sex ed came from a questionnaire that had the option of abstinence only or sex ed that included handing out condoms to students. What she opposed most was handing out condoms but she was boxed into a corner with the options she had. Basic reproduction is taught as early as fifth grade now. I agree that abstinence only is not the way to go but handing out condoms is basically giving the green light. There have been public school lessons in Colorado that included guest speakers that encourages high school to experiment with sex, gay sex, with or without condoms. I don’t think that kind sex ed needs to be in the schools.

Bridge to Nowhere: If you are talking about how she changed her stance on the issue it happens. Politicians change their minds just like people do. It becomes an issue when flip flopping in the norm and you can’t say that about Palin.
The debt in Wasilla you speak of is a railroad depot and connecting rail line intended to assist the towns economy, how can you say that’s a bad idea. Every town has future debt. Tell me how much future debt your city holds. Alaska’s debt is also in the form of projects aimed at helping the economy. Alaska’s entire economy is based on the price of oil. The people of Alaska do not pay state sales tax or state income tax because the state is supported by oil. With the oil reserves off the coast of California we could at least lower or taxes if the eco nuts would allow it. You can’t blame Palin for low oil prices.

Troopergate: Please, have you read anything about the case. The Public Safety Commissioner still hasn’t decided what he was fired for and Wooten did some pretty stupid things. If Palin had done something illegal or lied it would have been dealt with by now.

For troopergate she was found to have abused her power, that was a finding by the alaskan legislature. Public safety has yet to come to any conclusion, but then again its not terribly surprising now that the focus has left. Punishment will probably be swept under the rug now that she conveniently left office.

The debt in wasilla if I remember correct is mainly from a sports arena that she wanted built, it failed to generate any revenue.
Its not low oil prices that caused Wasilla to go into deficit, which it had never been in before Palin.

Her policies on sex ed are pretty clear, and its failures are even clearer as demonstrated by her own family. The agendas she pushed in alaska in these regards were poorly thought out and damaging to Alaskans.

Also there is the fact that as mayor of Wasilla, she made rape victims pay for their own rape kits.

Her policies and her demonstrated lack of knowledge for the issues at hand are what makes me believe that she is the exact opposite of what this country needs. We don't need a winking idiot at the helm, we need someone who knows what they are doing.

She has not been attacked with nearly the intensity that Obama faced during his run. At every turn they wanted to paint obama as a muslim terrorist. What did they try and paint Palin as? An idiot? Thats not nearly as damaging. I am sure you watched Fox news and listened to Rush, and I am sure you watched the footage of Palins little clan rallies...er..town hall meetings. If you have not you need to take a look. One of the big things that I remember is that during a town hall meeting with both palin and Mccain, the crowd starting getting whipped up into a fury about Obama being a Muslim, Sarah winked and clapped and egged them on, Mccain actually stepped up and had to quell the masses by correcting them and saying Obama was a good christian. Palin never did anything close to that. Every time when she was alone headlining one of these things and these chants would come up she would just wink, and encourage the crowd.
Its all over Youtube, random folks bringing cameras to the Mcpalin rallies, its horrifying.

Not a single womens group has stood up for her because of her position on womens issues is not in line with what they want. its really that simple. They want to back a candidate that is a positive image for women and will further womens issues, Palin would do neither.

You are correct that it was found that Palin Abused her power but to what extent. It's not like she pulled a Nixon. The people of Alaska had the opportunity to hand out punishment but choose not to. Serious abusers of power get impeached. Remember Nixon and Clinton, those were serious. Wooten was still suspended without pay after the whole Troopergatething was over so it must have had some merit.
You don’t remember correctly, the sports complex was expensive but not as expensive as the rail line. The reason the project was so expensive was because of disputed over land use and lawsuits by eco-nuts. How are you going to complain about a community oriented project like a sports complex, give me a break. It’s for the people of the town. Give me a list of local community oriented projects, building, or community sports complexes that make a profit. I never said low oil prices contributed to Wasilla’s money problems.
