Thompson and the Brother are all about reparations.

We dont hear any issues with gill nets that wipe out salmon. The commercial Native harvest of salmon is unregulated.

The Yurok Nation will be a better steward than the state and fed bozos in charge of this land now. One example is they are giving it up with little or no concession. At least the privet owners got payed for their land.

To Anonymous in Eureka-stop with the negative sterotyping-meth labs I mean really! These toxins were and are products of the dominant society. Remember this land was originally Yurok land and still is. We are finally organized and ready to take control of what belongs to us.

Two wrongs do not make a right. This should never be allowed to happen. People should call congressman Mike Thompson and urge him not to support this act of treason.

Wont it be nice when they bulldoze the Youth Hotel at Wilson Creek (which by the way is the old historical DeMartin home) to build their new casino? I guess they are only interested in preserving their history when there is no money to be made. We were all dumb enough to believe that when they bought the property they were going to restore it. NOT.

If this happens you can kiss the salmon run goodbye...think gill nets across the whole mouth of the Klamath that prevent ANY salmon from making it up to spawn. Fisheries management by the Yurok tribe is dominated by greed and unfortunately is a perfect example of "tragedy of the commons". Not a legit biologist in the mix. I'm sorry, but if the tribe were genuinely concerned with stewardship of their ancestral land this wouldn't be the case. Gill netters at the mouth of the K that exceed catch limits regularly, then try to sell you roe. Things have gone way beyond supporting a Yurok family's food requirements and into "fishy" territory.

This article is very misleading. Too start with , the "mouth" of the river is not involved at all in this and the picture is of the actual mouth of the river with the shore casters fishing there. That is a "file" picture and is nothing to do with the actual land in question. The actual beach and hillside on the south side of the river is owned by the Williams family and up until 1992 was Dad's Camp, the families fishing camp grounds. That land is owned fee simple as is other privately owned land within the Yurok tribal boundries. What is involved is that the tribal boundries are one mile on each side of the river but the N. Park comes down almost to the water line and overlaps the tribal boundries. I've talked to Mr. Driscoll who wrote the article and he understands all of this.

You are wrong on so many counts, where do I start. There are fish biologist involved. The Indians netting is regulated and they can not block off the river or the mouth of river. Nets have to have so many feet between them and can not be linked together. Nets can only be a certain length. Also do you have any idea of what the word subsistance means? You can give a fish for a sack of flour OR you can sell the fish or roe to someone and buy a sack of flour. I'm guessing you have never spent much time at the Klamath mouth especially during the season or you would see all the regulations in use. On top of that the runs are monitored and quotas are set for the commercial AND the subsistance fishing.

They are also working on netting the Smith River which will be the end of our salmon also. Hopefully, someone will put a stop to this nonsense soon.

You want aboriginal fishing rights?
Then, be MEN, and fish like your ancestors: loin cloths, no gill nets all across the river, use only canoes, no alcohol or cigarettes, no selling your fish for $20 to $30, no driving pick-up trucks down to the river bars. When was the last time you carried out a conversation in your mother tongue?

You yuroks are as white as your greed makes you, maybe even whiter.
