First of all, if a car is left unlocked, there is no "breaking" into the car. In fact, if a car is left unlocked, there should be a law that provides protection against prosecution for people who look inside those unlocked cars as they are simply adhering to the time honored tradition of "finders-keepers, loosers-weepers".
Those cars were parked unlocked in the public eye and therefore their contents are part of the public domain, free for all to share hence the unlocked doors.
As for the wallet, it's not against the law to be returning a found wallet to the lost and found after taking a reward from the wallet. After all, had the owner of the wallet been in possession of the wallet, it wouldn't be in the hands of this man.
Now this man is an idiot, because he shouldn't have written an appology until after conviction, but before sentencing, as only a complete retard would confess to any crime in front of stupid cops.
