"California had the worst, followed by New York, Illinois and New Jersey."

Wow, and we wonder why Florida's driving has gotten worse over the years...look at the top states and look at who is moving in....The driving wasn't like this in Florida years ago..people weren't RUDE!

Coming from California I agree they are bad but sorry FLorida is worse. Can't say it is Floridians because I remember driving here years ago before so many transplants filled the state and it wasn't like this but the drivers here are absolutely NUTS!! There seem to be no regard for rules of the road, regard for others or regard for safety. Makes me wonder why the state coffers aren't overflowing with ticket revenues-oh wait--it's law enforcement doing a lot of the law breaking!

U.S. drivers are in general the worst in the entire world. No one believes in drivers keeping to the right except to pass a slower car anymore. As soon as the pass is safely made get back over to the right!

Another pet peeve of mine is a driver that thinks just because he put on his turn signal he can just make a lane change without checking to see if the lane is actually clear!

My final rant is about affluent, indulging parents that give their brand-spanking new driver with no experience a 300 HP high performance car and turn them loose on the rest of us. They're more than a menance, they're a lethal weapon that's a danger to themselves as well as innocent others.

People need to put down their cell phones, i-pods, PDAs and whatevers and drive their car.

Talk about an unscientific survey. I travel the entire east coast by auto twice a year and by far Florida is way worse than the whole eastern seaboard and it's not just the 3rd world drivers - It's also the rednecks and soccer moms.

Have driven in every State in the Union except Hawaii and Alaska .

No votes for Mass.?
Boston has the Worst US drivers . The rest of the state is pretty decent.
But Boston puts Mass. in a Near Tie with California.

Yes having lived all over the State , would Agree that South Florida is the Very Pits. Mostly due to Latin American "Mano - A - Mano" drivers , who love to pass slow traffic in the Emergency lane at 80 MPH.

Troopers should carry Limb Loppers and take off their Middle finger at the Scene.

There are several places that I flat out avoid when it comes to driving in Florida.

First the Tourist areas. Most of the time people are lost and are prone to do unpredictable things that causes lots of accidents. Then there is International Drive in Orlando. Sure it looks pretty but pretty doesn't help jack when it comes to functionality. It is a poorly designed road with little to no consideration to traffic flow when it comes to those median strips full of plant life.

Next is South Florida. Most people there have a bad attitude or are already in a foul mood and tend to be very reckless and aggressive. I cringe when I have to make a trip there.

Third place is East Orlando, near UCF, VCC, SCC, and Full Sail. It's called 'College Town' for a reason and every weekend, you will see at least 5 people on one trip from point 'A' to point 'B' who you can tell that they had too much to drink anyway.

I think the main problem is that many people don't care about the safety of others.

Dear Kidary Family,

You will soon have another worry: people who want to drive the posted speed limit will have to pull over to make way for the faster drivers. Isn’t that a good law to pass? Let’s ticket people for driving too fast AND for driving too slow. I got it – let’s just ticket people for diving – period. Then we can all barrel down Formosa as fast as we want and it won’t really matter. I really love this state because we make more sense than any other state around – Go Florida!!!

I have to agree with Angie regarding the tourist areas in Florida. Specifically, near Disney. 192 area is a deathtrap. I moved here in 90. I've been rear ended 3 times, hit a tourist that swerved in front of me and hit her brakes (she was arrested) and then the worst one, I was almost killed, ended up in intensive care thanks to a driver that fell asleep at the wheel. Physically scarred for life on that one.

Note that I have always been a cautious driver. You have tourists on the road here, looking for addresses, landmarks, etc, they do not pay attention and the locals become the victims.

2 weeks ago, some crazy lady decided to go on a suicide mission and deliberately run a red light.
She hit 3 vehicles including my daughters. When bystanders stopped to help get her out of the car she then tried to steal someone's vehicle. She is still under arrest. If you want to commit suicide, just do it, don't try kill others in the process. Now her insurance company mentioned that they may reject all claims based on some "insanity clause"? Don't think it will happen though because it is difficult to prove and there will be lawsuits.

Basically, all i can say is central florida is a deathtrap

Vegas may be worse than CA, and I think it's worse than Chicago, but I think Florida is worse than either of the two.

Of course, I could be wrong. I lived in Henderson for a couple of years, and all the while I was in the area, I couldn't believe the number of tire marks and scrapes on the concrete barriers along the roads. You turn on the car radio and there were several accidents across the city at any given time. The roads there definitely are no picnic.

people here in miami could careless about common courtesy while driving or otherwise.for the most part the people here are from other countries that don't have paved roads or marked lanes in their countries hell they drive like they have never been behind the wheel then the come here to the us and drive like they are the only one's on the road and think they own it, all you can do is do onto others as others do onto you get even with em flip em off and have a nice day....:)

This is not good. Come on people we are letting down our State's good name. Get out there tomorrow morning, run a few red lights make right turns from the left lane, drive real slow in the left lane on the Turnpike and I-95 and above all hit someone from behind at an angel so you can flip your car! We will get back into the number one slot that we so deserve!

As a native florida "cracker" I must say that South Florida has the worst drivers.
They tend to tailgate, cut in and out of traffic, often too close for comfort, and just have attitudes. I was born in Kendall, which was a nice place to live pre-Mariel boatlift.(1980) before Castro opened his jails and the dregs of society floated over here. Got to hand it to them though. They are good business people and hard workers, and completely rule the South Florida political arena.
Quite a large number of them are into drug trafficking though.

I AM SHOCKED!! I guess living in S. Florida has tainted my thoughts of people in general. I always thought S. Florida had the WORST of everything: people, drivers, schools, insurance, housing, and on and on.

I've always thought that CT had the worst drivers, whether its on the highways or the city streets or the suburbs.

A section of U.S. 6 is not called "Suicide Six" for nothing you know. Perpetually ranked in the top 10 for most unsafe section of road in the nation.

Now that, my friends, is perverse bragging rights.

George,
Come visit South Florida. We have the sun, the fun and the highway of death, I-95. I grew up in NY, learned how to drive in NY. Left NY when I was an adult yet never saw a car on the road flip over before. Here in South Florida it is a weekly occurrence!

Thank you for your acknowledgement. South Floridians to work very hard to uphold the distinction. Keep it up South Florida so we can be recognized as number 1 in the national poles!
