Below is a release from the Osceola Sheriff

Zero Tolerance Operation Results in 163 Arrests

Osceola County – Osceola County Sheriff's deputies successfully conducted Operation Zero Tolerance which resulted in 163 arrests and 353 citations issued. In addition, deputies confiscated three guns. The three-day operation began July 17, 2008. Deputies from all areas of the agency including criminal investigations, community response, tourist policing, K-9, narcotics enforcement, agriculture/marine, motors, aggressive driving, gang, school resource, DUI traffic, robbery, patrol and reserves worked all areas of the operation in Buenaventura Lakes, Poinciana and West 192 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. In addition, other local agencies including the Osceola County Corrections Department and Juvenile Probation assisted.

Based on the Sheriff’s Office community-oriented policing mission, the goal was to reduce crime in these areas, while gathering valuable intelligence for detectives who will use this information to work existing and future cases.

This was the eighth time the Sheriff's Office conducted such a large-scale operation involving almost all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office. The first took place in January, 2006, the second in June of 2006, the third in November 2006, the fourth in August 2007, the fifth in October 2007 and the sixth in January of this year, the seventh in April of this year. The result of all seven operations has been 660 arrests and 1,861 citations issued.

If you don't think BVL and Poinciana has a crime problem you are badly mistaken. This type of ongoing law enforcement is the only way to decrease crime in the areas. The residents need to get involved. The Sheriff can not do it alone.
