The Southwest Daily Times paper is still in business 3 days a week, but Earl Watt with the paper left and stated new paper called the daily leader, alot of problems now with paper, because he took about 70% of employees with him, so I don't know when they will get paper back if ever on line |

I really miss the site. We used to live there many years ago and it was a great way to catch up with what is going on in Liberal.

I'm searching for an obituary that, apparently, appeared in the Southwest Daily Times on Jan. 16, 2008, for Shirley Ray Griffin. If anyone has a copy and can scan it for me, I would appreciate it very much. hookemlrj@suddenlink.net

Hello. I'm a reporter and photographer for the SWD Times. I joined after the "walk-out" earlier this year. We have built a new staff and now produce an all local newspaper three times per week – Wed., Fri., and Sun.
I used to be the radio news director at KSCB, but the management eliminated my position because of money. They do post some local news on their Web site, however, they basically steal them verbatum from my news stories that are published in our paper. I feel that our staff has improved the newspaper, despite that it's now only a tri-weekly publication. That's about what a 20,000 population market size can handle. The newspaper and radio news industries have changed. They just couldn't compete with the Internet. It costs a tremendous amount of resources to provide that coverage, although it is a necessary service to the community. As for the Web site, that's about the last thing for us to update. Starting new advertising and news departments was the first priority. However, we are planning to update the site this year, and we are trying our best to provide the community with the local news coverage that very much lacks in this market. Hope you'll visit our Web site when it's up and running. |

Sure is sad to see the paper messed up like it is. You would think things could be worked out so the whole community doesn't suffer. It is all politics. I have lived here since 1978 and the town has really took a nosedive the last 10 years.
