Why should they? They don't sell alcohol? Let those who drink, and the people who sell it pay for their own problem.

Farmington wants to sell it so they can get the money, now they have to spend some of it to take care some of the not so nice parts about alcohol.

Why don't you propose a new tax that the navajo nation can collect on all alcohol sales in NW New Mexico counties. Then maybe they can take Farmingtons problem and put it on the Rez, with treatment centers there.

Excellent point from subutai.

Farmington complains but wants the money alcohol sales bring; never mind the downside (including increased crime).

Another bigger problem is the corrupt officials who divert $$$$ into their own pockets. There have too many scandals in the past decade on the Navajo Rez.

FARMINGTON The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise today will present a $5 million check to the tribe.
The money represents strong performance in the gaming industry on Navajo land and a restructuring of the loans that funded the tribe's debut into Indian gaming more than three years ago.
The Nation took out four separate loans to fund its casinos, said Phefelia Bradley, government affairs manager for the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise. The enterprise oversees gaming on Navajo land and the development of casinos.
"Rather than pay four different loan payments, we restructured the loans to have only one payment," Bradley said. "Based on the restructuring, the interest rate was reduced and we were able to come up with an amount that we can pay back to the Nation."
The $5 million check is the first payout from the gaming enterprise.
Meanwhile we still lack everyday necessities on the rez.
New pick up trucks on the rez.

Maybe trucks and diamond rings Navajo Tribal Officials, but NOTING for the common Navajo.

Maybe they will buy some Northern Navajo Nation Fair Magazines or give Hak Ghun a couple million more to play at the Ute Mountain Casino maybe?

60K still not missing!
Yes, but who made the deal with Daily Times making the 100th annual magazines which cost an estimated 60K? This is a non-profit organization and the public records should be made available. So what were the details of the deal concerning the 100th annual fair magazines? I was told that the magazines were piled in the EXHIBIT Hall and at a residence rotting away. That was really smart to order some 20,000 magazines which could not even be given away. The Board also authorized a private party to also make there own magazine for the fair without considering what that would do to the sale of there own magazine. A jelous Board member's wife went around telling poeple not to buy the magazine at the rodeo (another bright move W. Lee).

Did'nt this smart Board member even do any research into whether Navajos would pay $8.00 for magazine or for that matter a $5 poster? That is really smart. People couldn't even unload the magazines for $1. Now that is the definition of financial mismanagement. What a waste of about $60,000.00. Sneaky side deal during the 100th annual. About 25k of that money was paid in a check from the Navajo run casinos? I wonder if the Navajo run casinos will give more MONEY to the Northern Navajo Nation Fair Board? That is how some of your monry was mismanaged last year by the BOARD! Idiots!

Maybe the Navajo Nation will give the Northern Navajo Nation Fair Board 40K for some more magazines. The Fair board ought to pay the just bills. They also approved a budget for the 100th Annual and they did not pay the workers? Pay your bills.

Was the Daily Times ever paid by the Northern Navajo Nation Fair Board for the Magazines for the 100th annual Shiprock Fair? The Fair Board needs to pay the workers now!

The tribal government got $5 million.

The tribal members gambled away far more than that.

Government gets money. Members lose money.

Wise up.
