I was in the area when this happen. I was amazed how fast the police and emergency responders got to the scene to assist. The Sheriff himself was stopped in the intersection when this happen and was the first to render aid and call for help. I also saw the video on the news, what an amazing thing to have witnessed. Alot of people just stood there and watched the 5 year old boy scream, the sheriff impressed me today. My respect for the police in this county just went up, and I was one of the idiots complaining on here about them driving fast. Sorry guys.

I just received word that the person hit by the SUV (I believe his name was Dustin Owens) has passed away. This is as yet unsubstantiated by the press and I don't know anyone in his family, however a Subway employee and good friend of mine who was at the scene (he is the one seen being narrowly missed by the vehicle in the security video shown on the news) and selflessly attended to the victim until professionals arrived told me he was informed of the young man's passing earlier today. While I am hoping this is a misunderstanding I feel obligated to share this news.

Remember to keep the victim and his family in your thoughts, prayers, or what-have-you during this difficult time.

Well, until you know this to be a true statement you shouldn't have mentioned it.

A) To get up to 70-80mph he had to be having a seizure for a good amount of time. Don't think he would have kept it on the road for that long.

B) Then he had no reason to say he was only doing 20mph and swerved to miss a car pulling out in from of him. Like you could swerve to miss a car on a two lane road, yet still be in your land and not a ditch. But that still doesn't explain the speed.

dustin is fine and ALIVE, no longer in ICU...please don't start saying things that you "heard" or have not confirmed...Dustin has family, a child, and friends who love him and fortunately no one read your post before we had confirmation of his well-being.

J was inside Subway with the rest of the employees, Paramedics was attending to victim(s) Police were doing their job, Yes, Kevin Byars did see the entire event and was there first on the scene to get things rolling. HE knows first hand who did what when and where unless you hear it from him then it is all speculation!

Many lives have been effected by all of this. There is REALLY a lot to be considered and to handle and be dealt with. Rumors and speculation can make things so much worse then they really need to be. Please the best thing anyone of you can do is say prayers that God is going to meet all of their (those who were involved) needs whether it be financial, medical, emotional or all the above combined. Time takes care of every situation. God will have his hand on this and so many just need to back down and let God do his work!!!!

I can say one thing that people def talk alot here in this town and the surrounding counties for that matter. They always seem to speak of hear say without actually knowing the truth. Doing so never leads to a good outcome only makes the people involved in the gossip look foolish in the end. Learn to speak the truth before speaking of rumors, it might get you a little further in life.

The original post said he was GOING 70-80 (mph). The video looks closer to 50-60 to my untrained eye, but they can find out how many frames per second that surveillance camera records and fairly easily calculate the actual speed, if that's important. That vehicle was definitely going WAY TOO FAST for that intersection. As to WHY he was going that fast, speculation does no good. I'm sure we will find out soon enough. I just wonder if there is video from the Post Office or the Sheriff's office.

Terribly sorry! I was not gossiping so much as voicing concern. Glad you're alright, Dustin and again sorry for the misunderstanding.

Didn't mean to get trolled simply for requesting prayer!

he lookjed like he was going faster than 50-or 60 in my eyes.the police that was there can estimate it i would believe better than anyone else if he saw it happen. i'm just glad there wasn't anymore in the resturant and in the parking lot.

You should never post any information that serious on Topix of all places unless you know it is a fact. I'm sure your source heard it from another source and that source heard it from another source. If that fact (heaven forbid) had been true, his family would have been the ones to release the news. Not just some random person on Topix who heard it from someone else. That is a terrible rumor. May God bless the family and all of those affected by it.

i personally know the driver he would never in this world hurt any one on purpose. yes he had a seizure. i have road in the car with him while he was driving and he never goes over the speed limet he usally always gouse 5 mph below the speed limet. so you should really know the person befor you go and talk about him. he feels horrible about the sitiuation and wishes it never happend. im sorry to all the victims that got hurt in this accident, but it was a accident and ive personally seen a person have a seizure befor and its nothing you can get over in a few seconds and at the speed he was going if he was to hit the brakes it could have ended up a whole lot worse than it did
