Is it 17 or 18

there is a former topic on this subject. many people said 17 and many said 18. the best thing to do is call the police dept. and ask them at what age will they make you return home. for some reason i think it is 17.

I believe it's 18. An old friend of mine tried to leave home at 17, his mom called the cops, and he was found/taken back home. The cops told him he had to be 18. Since it wasn't his first time with the cops or this issue, they told him he'd be arrested the next time he left home. This was in Corpus about a year ago. He waited for his birthday, and left the moment midnight came. It's pretty sad, but he never looked back.

The age is 17. i left at that age mother called the cops and told them I ran away. They asked how old I was she said 17, and they told her there was nothing they could do. They said they can look for me if she wanted them to and ask me to go home but they couldn't make me.

The age of consent is 17 in Texas. However, the age of majority is 18. You can't move out until you're 18 unless you go to court and declare yourself independent.

BTW, you have to fill out a "Remove the disability of minority" form in order to be declared independent.

You can do this at age 16. The danger is that you will now be considered a legal adult under such cases. If you get caught for even minor offense, you have to face the music as an adult.

Oddly enough, you can get married as young as 14 in Texas (with court consent...or 16 without court consent). Believe it or not, it happens quite a bit. At this point, you are a semi-adult. You have the privileges of adulthood (independence) while still considered a child by the state for purposes of criminality. Of course, 90% of marriages like this end in divorce anyway (and single mothers).

My advice: It is best to work things out with your parents. You will one day want to know them and have them back in your life anyway. Imagine yourself as 40 years old giving yourself advice. Your 40 year old self would probably want a relationship with your parents as a teenager.

Hang in there. My dad kicked me out of the house when I was 14 when he found out I was gay and my mother did nothing to stop it. Here it is 20 years later and I have not seen them. Trust me its hard out in the streets. I was fortunate enough to make it, but don't recommend it.
options

don't feel like you are trapped and have to stay at home enduring god knows what. there are other options. you may need to talk to someone at school and then have them call CPS. i know alot of people talk bad about them but i will tell you something. i was in foster care and it was great sleeping at night knowing i was safe and always had food and clothes. i am very thankful i stayed in foster care because on top of all the misery i had at my parents home i knew i would never be able to afford to go to college. well the state of texas took very good care of me and paid for my college, my dorm and helped me with food. i graduated from college and here is the strange thing all the state expected of me was to maintain a 2.0 gpa. i will always be thankful for that one teacher who cared and pointed me to the right direction. like i said there are other options. do it the right way. don't live with regrets. you can do it. if you do end up in foster care i hope you are placed in a home like mine. my 'PARENTS' are the best. i am going to be 30 and they are still there for me and they have always been the best. i thank god for them every day. it is sad to say but my bio family never changed and continue living in hell, some things never change but i made the choice to change. you can do it. keep us in touch and let us know how things work out for you. god bless you.

to options, all i can say is WOW. boy you are an exception to the rule. for you to hold your head up and break the vicious cycle you grew up in is awesome. you remind me of jay cee dugard, wow. i don't know what you went thru but i am sure is was awful and then you turned it all around because not only did you care enough to change things but the foster home you were living in was so good to you. people talk down about CPS but this is truly an example of them doing the right thing for you. may god keep you safe and i hope this person who started this topic gets lucky like you did.

Report them!!! Now!!!
As for the one who just turned 17 on the 5th of Dec.....what the hell??? A Fiancé at 15 or 16? Either you are trying to grow up too fast, or you just want out. Either way, getting married to escape that could just be trading one bad lifestyle for another equally bad one. You're too young to be having sex, much less having a fiancé. How old is he by the way? I'd wager that he is old enough to know better than to not be screwing a 16 year old. Predator? Hmmm mm

I really like the comment "options" said, very touching. And those who are getting abused physically or mentally, those parents should not be doing that! Also young people, hear me out, you have to be doing your part at home too, study and do your homework, help around the house, do small things for your parents, like wash some clothes, wash the dishes, cut the yard, clean the car, those small things will help your parents or parent see that you are being good and trying to do your part as a son or daughter, dont be lazy, the real world is cold and its not merciful. and in turn they will see that what they have been to you was wrong, it might take time, but eventually they will see your good deeds and want to change. dont give up, i came from an abusive family, was molested by growing up,, my neighbor attempted to molest me too, although i had a roof, food, clothes, but you know something, everybody is going to experience many hardships, some growing up, and some as adults. Im glad at least my mother showed me what it was to rely on God, i would pray and eventually it got better as i got older, dont ever give up, you can get help, just ask someone you think that wil listen, maybe a pastor, running away is not always the answer, its never greener on the other side. i hope you will be able to work it out, God bless.
