If the Pegram Fire Department is so good at Fire suppression, why have they let so many houses in Pegram burn to the ground? And why have so many fires reignited after the fire crew leaves? And why are they not getting our fire hydrants working? Could it be that they are more about publicity than genuine protection? When has the Pegram fire department made an effort at enforcing fire codes?

Well, you ought to know that they are all just volunteers and not professional firemen. Cheatham County contracts with the Town of Pegram Volunteer Fire Department to provide fire protection for the Town and part of the County. The fire department is not a real City Fire Company like Metro Nashville where Fire Professionals are on duty 24/7.

Maybe, the County should contract with Metro Nashville to cover the 800 or so buildings in the 8 square mile Town. Metro has a fire hall just a few miles from Pegram and the People would have professional fire protection. You check on that but I suspect that Pegram does not want that and they just want to keep their little playhouse and run things their way which is and has been little more than nothing.

The houses that burned were poorly constructed and had faulty wiring and heaters because of no codes enforcement. The rebuilt homes were up to codes and twice as good as those burned so it may have been better that they were burned. Look at all the homes off Marshall Woodard that were built with a State Grant. Even though some were burned for fire practice and no one was hurt. All were better off because the State Grant paid for most of the cost and now there is more to tax from the Town and County point of view. That is why the fire department lets them burn to the ground.
