Police: Port Ewen driver struck, killed pedestrian

A Port Ewen man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after, authorities said, he was driving drunk, jumped a guardrail and struck and killed a pedestrian.

Now that guns are the hot topic, and that most agree they are weapons that can be used for good as well as hideous crimes like that of a murderer, Paul L. DeGraff Jr. has found another weapon to commit a second murder. Instead of using a pistol, Derek Wood was innocently murdered by DeGraff's weapon of second choice, his Sierra Truck. But the legal system and our society enabled DeGraff to have that second opportunty at over twice the legal alcohol limit. Should we give him a third opportunity ... I think not! He needs to removed from society so he can't murder again. Vehicles are weapons too.

Just sad. It didn't have to happen if only the driver had been where he really belonged. Now he can go back behind bars. We need tougher laws.
