This new story about confiscated beer and others have strongly led me to the conclusion that the KPD needs to clean house. Anyone else agree?

Ryne must have some relatives ducking warrants. There is some stupid people in any organization. The departments seems to have jumped on correcting the problem children. Most of these guys are working their butts off with very little thanks.

My family abides by the law thank you. And yes I realize that there is a lot of good policeman, but most are egotistical and corrupt.

Well, I am a firm believer that the police departments attract three types of people who want to be cops: those who were bullied in high school and wanna take it out on others since they finally have some authority, those who were the bullies who wanna continue to have that power over people, and legitiemate nice guys who wanna do good fo the community and like the excitement the job offers. Kingsportpd has a regular practice of giving paid vacays to cops under investigation, i think they call it suspended with pay, lol.......This Johnson guy, has no business being in a postion of authority with a temper like that. Furthermore, why wasnt he charged with DUI, or was he driven their. At lest p.i. loke anybody else would've been charged with.. officer Brandon Carter was under investigation for a third time which coincidentally included officer Horne being involved in the incident where money was taken from some MExicans. that was the third time he was caught stealing evidence from the evidence room or soemthing related....He was given a slap on the wrist.. I don't know about you guys, but if I got caught stealing from work once, i wouldnt be getting a paid vacay, id be getting a permanant unpaid one.......This is getting rediculous, as in my opinion too many cops let the badge go to their head and feel like they are somehow more important than everyone else....Totally unnacceptable in my opinion.

The problem with KPD is that cops like Tim Horne, Brian Carter, etc. that are the "bad apples" of the group, get this stigma about them for making so many arrests, newspaper headlines, drug busts, etc. that the other cops aspire to be like them, whether they have to do "dirty", immoral, or questionable things to accomplish that or not. If they eliminate the say... 10-15 "bad apples" that are within the force, then the rest of the GOOD cops aka "bad apples" in training, won't have that negative standard to live up to. Allowing activities like these, and hundreds more that I'm sure have been thrown under the rug, continue to go on is making it seem almost acceptable to the newer, fresher, and more impressionable minds on the force.

There are a lot of really good cops in KPD, but the few bad ones are REALLY, VERY BAD. And leave a horrible taste in one's mouth if ever encountered first hand.

A few days ago my engine quit running on J.B. Dennis as if it ran out of gas and I was able to coast over to the shoulder (tank was half full). I've got a disabled tag for reasons but managed to check under the hood for leaks and had my head in the trunk to check the fuel cut-off when I heard a "hello" from behind me and almost jumped through the lid (mostly deaf). An officer and pulled up behind me, got out of his car and walked up behind me and I was totally unaware of him...lol.

I'm middle aged with a beard and very long hair (saving up for a donation to other cancer patients when I have chemo). I was wearing old jeans and a t-shirt at the time.

Despite my appearance he never questioned me in any way or even checked my papers (which would have been fine but only wasted his time). The officer was nothing but polite and helpful. He called a wrecker for me and stayed parked behind me alerting traffic as long as he could till he had to leave on a call.

The point is...I needed help and that's exactly what I got!

So I say thank you to Officer Burnett.

and everyone in KPT ISNT dressed like he described? i gues it IS a miracle he didnt get his background checked. most of you need to have it checked. gge you seem edgy. and defensive. thats alot of violatility for just one post. maybe you should turn yourself in and face the music instead of living such a stressed life ducking the law. besides with such an anger issue, you should do fine in the joint.

Addendum:

I presume he ran my plates which would have shown a clean record since at least 2003 if they look that far back. With that info, there would not have been any reason to pursue it other than the officers observations or corruption.

I mentioned my appearance because profiling is normal behavior and particularly for police. Since I apparently wasn't intoxicated (and even if I was), I believe what happened next was a matter of attitude. I was polite and respectful and that's what I received in return just as it should be.

However if roles were reversed, I would at least have checked everything legally possible about me. Considering that this thread is about corrupt Kingsport police, opportunity knocked. It only takes an accusation for a legal/illegal search (thought I smelled, saw, etc) but it didn't happen.

Not only was I helped without any hassle, but Officer Burnett provided an excellent example for Kingsport police. Since accusations easy here and prevalent, I originally posted:

1. To thank the officer.
2. Because I thought stating a recent and actual experience might be beneficial.
