Holston Manor is a better nursing home.

i don't think you go to wexford house for therapy. it's a nursing home where people live for the long term. they don't keep a doctor on staff. if a resident gets sick then they get sent to the hospital.

Nursing homes have a therapy dept for patients that are recovering from a fall or something like that, they stay a few months

nursing homes don't have "patients"

nursing homes have residents who live there.

when a resident gets sick, they go to the hospital.

doctors only make rounds in nursing homes and they aren't daily. typically (unless it's a veteran's hospital) they only make rounds a couple times a month at best.

if a resident needs to be seen by a doctor then the nurses will call the doctor. usually there is not a doctor on staff at a nursing home.

. Holston Manor is highest paid employees in area. Strict random drug screening of employees.

I used to work at Holston Manor. There is no amount of money that could make me walk back in there and clock in. Horrible staff to patient ratios and unsafe conditions that are ignored. Lazy nurses and grumpy CNAs. However that could have changed as it has been a few years ago, but I doubt it.
As far as Wexford House goes, I don't know. It is a nicer facility than most others but I have heard of "residents" dying there because no one takes there complaints (chest pain, etc.) seriously.

residents die at every nursing home. that's what happens when you're old or in bad enough condition to be in a nursing home. people die.

i don't think the problem is that complaints don't get taken seriously. sometimes, elderly people have valid complaints and serious issues going on, but nothing can be done because they're too old to operate on. if they have chest pain and they're 90 years old they can be given medication, but nobody is going to perform open heart surgery on someone that old so what's the point of transporting them to a hospital?

of course, people outside the medical field don't understand things like that.

As a person inside the medical field, I understand that it is the nurse's responsibility to address a person's concern and maintain quality of life no matter what their age. It is not within the nurse's scope of practice to decide whether or not something can be done for the problem or whether they get to live or die...you send them out and let the hospital physicians decide. Even if they are a DNR, that means do not try to bring them back from the dead, it does not mean just let them die because they are old. Hospice patients are different, however these patients that were ignored were not hospice patients.

Only if you consider $12 to 14-hr for a CNA as being high.$8-hr is the average for an uncertified butt-wiper.

Some insurance companies are no longer paying for their subscribers to get rehabilitation in places like Health South. They are only paying for rehab in places like Holston Manor (a nursing home). United Healthcare is one of the insurance companies.
