I have heard and been witness to alot of questionable practices in Wellmont facilites around the area. Im surprised they haven't been closed down or sued so many times they dont have any money left. Does anyone else agree with me about this poorly run company? Lately, where I work...employees have been leaving like it was the Titanic.

I might not be a Wellmont fan but unions are just going to make it worse as they would fight for higher wages (to cover their dues) and that would increase the cost of healthcare. As long as there are union leaders making big bucks, that money has to come from the rank and file, it will be difficult to convince me that a union is a good thing.

As for Wellmont, as I said, I am not fan. They tend to always claim they are #1 in everything when we learn later, they are not. It's like if they say it enough, we should believe it. They were going to build that hospital in Johnson City. Nope, never happened. They were going to build an ER in Johnson City becuase it was REALLY needed. Nope, States just about called them liars with misleading ads. Now they claim to be #1 according to some web site. How can they be #1 in cardiology when the web site they claim doesn't even list them for their special honors? I know I am not a healthcare pro but I can read and no where on that web site does it mention Wellmont. Cute commercials with candy hearts but the substance is lacking.

So, I am not a Wellmont fan. Not really a fan of MSHA either. I think I spelled that right. Overall I want to stay out of the hospitals.
But back on point here, no to unions. That would only add a layer of beauracracy (spelling again?) adding costs to the bill.

No thank you.

It is poorly managed. Very unfair to workers. However, they would never let a union come in. It has been tried and they unleash unlimited resources to stop it. Wellmont is not concerned about being a great employer or great healthcare...only the appearance as such. I worked there a long time before I finally figured that out. The public would be disgusted to learn the real truth about stuff that goes on there.

I do not like unions, but it does need one. The nurses got a 75 cent raise while the rest of the staff got nothing. However, The CEO can afford to have a new restroom built in her office. It seems she is too good to walk the few feet away to us the restroom as the CEOs did before her. I heard that Holston Valley is about to loose several housekeepers at one time. They only start out at 7.25 which they could make anywhere and be treated with more respect and have better working conditions. Who will clean the place if those housekeepers leave? It takes a month to hire new ones. I have heard that they have been working short for a good while now and staph infections are on the rise. Is there a connection? I have an idea! Make the CEO, doctors and nurses clean. They make the big bucks.

well its not the nurses fault that the housekeepers don't make that much. but they probably had to give them a little bit of a raise to keep them, they are the lowest paid nurses in the area. if the nurses leave, do the housekeepers have the knowledge to take care of the patients? but yes, wellmont could spend their money on better things than a gigantic fireplace and a bathroom.

I work at HVMC in nursing and we don't get paid crap for what we do! Sometimes I feel that they are more worried about the looks of the hospital than they do about their own employees. I would love someone from upper management and I'm not talking clinical leaders either to come do a 12 hour shift in my shoes and tell me that 8 bucks an hour is sufficient. And how can you give good patient care if you have twelve to sixteen patients by yourself?!?! I'm a cna and they wonder why they can't keep cna's when they can get paid two or three dollars an hour at MSHA and have better working conditions!

If you are an R.N. there are some great paying jobs in the U.S. some with $15,000 signing bonus. MOVE your ass out of Kingsport and find a good paying job. Companies in this area are only going to pay what they have to if they can get R.N.'s for $10-$15 per hour that is all they will pay.

wouldn't it be easier for you to go start your own business and pay yourself what you think your worth instead of expecting someone else to?

A PA and an RN - I'm assuming you mean NP- are 2 different "dawgs". I am an NP who worked for Wellmont for years as an RN. Pay and professional consideration are items on the agenda for the very distant future. If you really are a "Welmont" big "dawg" your outstanding communication skills explain a lot about why management can't maintain a professional workforce without extraordinary turnover.

Okay, but they are not excellent. Every organization has good and bad. You have to ask yourself if the bad is bad enough to bring a third party into the equation.
I left msha because I did not want a union, but ten of my coworkers did.
I just couldn't take the hostility and harassment any more.
