Yeah and CNN refused to carry her heroic story because it shows the NRA is right. THE ANSWER IS SIMPLY MORE SCHOOL SECURITY.

The only thing that was reported by any national news was on the ticker at the bottom of the screen. If she wouldn't have been there.. god only knows what would have happened. They need a cop at every school.

she was not brave enough to pull the trigger had to wait for the back up guy to do it. The cop who actually killed the gunman is the hero. Carolyn Gudger should be fired and shunned.

The entire Gudger Family are mainstay reputable Bristolians, and you sir are a worthless little worm and I'd be more than pleased to meet with you in person at any time, anywhere and tell you that directly to your face. The best outcome would be if ou would bring your immediate family with you. Your kids need to know that you're a punk. It will do them much more food than harm.

Puke, you are an idiot. You should be shunned for stupid remarks like that. If Deputy Gudger had not been there and took action, who knows how many lives would have been lost??? You must have to pay someone to wipe your butt. You are a disgrace and a complete FOOL!!!

You are a complete and total dumba**! Thank God Carolyn Gudger was there instead of a spineless jackass like you. Slither back into the hole that you crawled out of.

Carolyn Gudger, and those children she was sworn to protect, are alive for simply one reason: A deranged madman allowed it. Gudger's reaction, or rather lack of one, is an object lesson in how NOT to be a law enforcement officer and how NOT to handle an armed person pointing a gun at you if you are a law enforcement officer. Period. I showed this video to my entire patrol watch and to a man (and woman) they were all aghast. Simply, utterly, totally inexcusable. And I'll be happy to tell anyone that to their face that doesn't grasp it. When the wolf comes to the door, you need someone who is going to stand and deliver, not let a madman walk her all over the school at gunpoint. Had he elected to fire and take her weapon, tragedy would have ensued. An overweight, kindly grandmother with no apparent will to win a violent encounter, and who wasn't even wearing a ballistic vest, by her own admission. If someone comes into the school and is pointing guns at people and you can't find it in yourself to shoot him, you need to go be a florist, a grocer, a secretary, or anything BUT a person with a gun and a badge. PERIOD.

Thank you for the comments Mr. Monday Morning quarterback. So you could have done better? The fact is, all the kids were kept safe and the idiot gunman is dead. What makes you so damn smart????

I'm one of those Central students Officer Gudger protected on that day. We are all grateful to her and your insult Jack Riebald, to her is ridiculous!
She kept the gunman at bay until backup arrived. SCHS was protected that day by a hero, not only Officer Gudger but the other officers as well.

Absolutely, without a doubt I could have done better. I could have done what every police academy in the country drills into all potential law enforcement officers: When confronted with the imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury, you stop that threat by shooting until it's no longer a threat. The real fact (which I notice you conveniently ignored) is that the children AND Gudger are only alive because a deranged gunman ALLOWED them to live. Sorry, but it is not proper or wise for someone with a police uniform to fail to engage a deadly threat. Action is faster than reaction, and the matronly old grandma was a hair's width from getting smoked and her gun taken. What make me so smart? I'm a Marine Corps veteran and police officer with 15 years experience, who knows tactically, morally and legally what should be done in a situation like Gudger faced. Any cop worth his or her salt who has seen that video has correctly deduced that Gudger does not have what it takes to be a cop. The officers who showed up and actually TRULY ended the threat should be honored. Carolyn Gudger may be a wonderful person with a big heart but she is not cut out for law enforcement. You may not like that fact, but it remains a fact nonetheless.

Her duty was not to dance around at gunpoint until other cops showed up, her duty was to engage the threat to both her and the children she was supposed to protect. She won that encounter by default, due to the fact that, for whatever reason, the gunman elected not to fire. I watched the video, several times over. At no point in that encounter was Gudger in control, she was moved about by the whims of the gunman. Also, I am not "insulting" her. I am applying a real world, legal, moral and tactical analysis of her performance, using the criteria of an experienced police officer. She simply failed to perform her duties, period. Your emotional attachment to her or your unseasoned, layman's analysis can do nothing to refute any of the points I made. What I'm saying isn't a matter of "agree or disagree". It's simply fact. Get some years under your belt and some experience with violence up close and personal, and you might understand. In the interim, I'll certainly brook no lectures from the likes of you.

I happen to agree with him that Gudger was an abject failure of being a cop when it came to crunch time. I would also like an invitation for a face to face meeting, I'll be in middle Tennessee in August. Name the place and the time, I'll bring my kids, too.

I agree with you Jack. Come a little farther east. We're in East Tennessee near Virginia and North Carolina. Exit 66 off Interstate 81 and you can find her right off that exit at Sullivan Central High School. Then come on up to exit 69 to the sheriff office and tell sheriff wayne anderson what a jack ass he is for commending her and also for not firing her for failure to perform her duties
