I have seen a core drilling truck at one of the building lots in front of target near the best buy side of the development. I know the compaction was poor on those lots and when they get a serious buyer they have to get a core sample, so my question to the community is does anyone have a idea who it is. The city has no plans but to spend the money, they have someone. I know it's not the lobster....l

I am very curious now about this.
I do know that there is currently room to build 2 medium size stores on the Dick's end of the center as well as one medium store connected to Best Buy. The parking lot, sidewalks, landscaping etc all were build to allow future buildings to be there but the growth stopped.
Phase 2 of this project never took off either sadly

Maybe they possibly have a resturant lined up for this. Something will be going in for them to be doing drilling . Phase 2 would have been nice but at least marquee is building new somewhere and supposedly the mall is getting the IMAX theatre .

Times news today reported that the property marquee has been wanting to build on has been rezoned. My guess they are actually going to build there. As the mall, I first read they were building 40000 new, then they said there building an IMAX and new, the last story said there going to wait until marquee leaves, then remodel where they were plus an IMAX. One story said they have six months to start after missing a deadline the city gave them for the 800k. I still don't know why they city didn't do something with marquee who has been in kingsport for 10 years. The city is building it free so they should be able to build it. I think the small theaters in the mall will be remodeled, but still small, and Garfield's will be the bar the said they were bringing. So in the end, we lost one bar for another, a bowling alley which has been around 40 plus years may be shutdown, a least hurt, and the same small screen theaters. City should have put the IMAX at the crossroads, but that's another sore spot. We do gain an IMAX, but I can't see it helping if marquee builds something better then Tinseltown. I might buy a IMAX ticket for one big movie, but at 16.50 (Knoxville IMAX price) a ticket is too much. I just don't see people coming from Johnson city to support it. Bristol will build a new theater on one of the two developments, both show a new 14 screen, Bristol va has a IMAX on there map, so I would go there even living in kingsport because I will have somewhere to eat, shop, anything. The mall would make a good building to turn into a collage....

None. The building lot is on the corner of the red light. One good thing for kingsport is that our k mart is going to start getting some changes to make it more competitive. Sears is still in trouble, but with the theater going in behind, they may be taking a stong look at it helping they're business. I hope it helps, they have been dead for a while.

Kmart made changes already, they became a Super kmart for a while, then they downsized again.

They downsized into a "mini sears."

I think if they cover the basics they will do better. More then just one thing on the self, and more then one line open for checkout. Anything is better

Colonial heights old huddle house property will be a healthcare clinic, because we needed another. Now if we can just get a new bank or credit union to balance it out.

Good call on the frog ice cream. I was told the same today. The rumor for the corner lot at target is a new Wendy's. Bojangles is another who was looking but cooled off. Just rumors....nothing solid

Seriously a Wendys? That needs to be for more sit down types of food places. Even Zaxby's is alright. I understand there is only one in Kpt now but i guess i was just hoping for a more sit down type casual restaurant. Maybe thats just a rumor.
