I think it is pointless in terms of crime prevention. Most criminals are not going to feel shame that their photo is in a paper. In fact, many will be proud of it. Most criminals only have other criminals as part of their social group.
I am guessing that you dont have many friends that have ever been in trouble. But I will tell you my record. 24 years old never has a speeding ticket never been to court As and Bs all through school. You are cinical to think that criminals only share peers of other criminals. Get your head out of your ass.

Just some info for you, Kingsport City Jail is just a "holding" jail...All people arrested and taken there have an opportunity to bond out, if a bond is given, and to go before a judge. Once they have seen the judge, they either make bond or are sent to Sullivan Co Detention Center...so, no one stays at Kingsport City Jail...

Oh yea, and everyone is just a prayer away from being accused of something they haven't done...

Unless your arrested over the weekend or things changed. Don't know about now but a Friday night arrest used to include a trip to Blountville till the judge comes in on Monday morning.

The publication is a rag. It has no redeeming value to society. The fact that someone turns a profit off of others misfortune is disgusting. I know someone who was in there and found innocent. How do you go back and unpublish his mugshot? It doesn't matter that is says "Innocent Until Proven Guilty". Who looks at a publication of mugshots and thinks hmmm....probably innocent? It is public record and you do have the right to to see this information. However, a publication like this entitled "Tri-Cities Busted" already implies guilt of those listed. Convictions are also public record. Why not just publish thoses? You can say whatever you want about the right to public record, but any rational thinking person knows that this is disgusting sensationalism at it's worst. If you buy it, you are a sap...get a life.

I am personally offended because of the way my husbands record is listed. It it is a horrible situation for all of us. He was wrongfully charged as a teenager in an ordeal and it has listed that as part of his new charges. I am offended because despite his plea he was innocent he plead to give the family closure. Now that he is an adult he has been charged again for a driving charge and the severity of the last cdharge has again been brought up to us, the public to continue judging him. I know how we as human beings judge people as it is and this web sight has ridiculed people and has put their faces on a paper for all public to see and to place judgement. Even if they are not guilty, we as society and humans are cruel and place judgement this is not cool it does have some good points, as terms of child molesters, but these people have a chance to have been wrongfully accused. I doubt that "busted" will make a paper of their innocence.

So your husband was innocent, but plead guilty to give the family closure? So it gave the family closure to convict the wrong guy and let the true guilty one go free, to commit the crime again, to another family? I'm sorry, I may just be naive, but I can't imagine someone pleading guilty to a crime they didn't commit! I would never say I did it, if I know I didn't. That's insane!

Well good girl you obviously have no clue as the reality of court. People plead guilty all the time to crimes they didn't commit because going in front of a jury will get them more time. I have a friend who pled guilty to a crime he did not commit and was sentenced to 8 yrs in prison. If he took it to trial and lost he would have had to do 25 yrs. Just because you are innocent doesn't mean you can prove it to a jury.

Salem witch trials again? Plead guilty, you go free, plead your innocence and you're "guilty" anyway? No one knows what they will do in any certain situation until they are thrown in. I watch a lot of the true crime shows on tv so I know how the courts work. I cant say that getting more time by pleading my innocence sounds like something I'd rather do... it's just hard for me to imagine myself pleading guilty to a crime that I knew I didn't do. I'm thankful that I've never had to make that choice and I pray I never do. I just hope that if I am ever faced with that, I would stay true to myself.

Also, she said that her husband pled guilty to give the grieving family closure. She said nothing about receiving a lesser sentence. the point I was trying to make was that I can't understand why he would say he did the crime just for their benefit. I'm pretty sure if I was that grieving family, I wouldn't have closure until the RIGHT person paid for the crime. What kind of family gets comfort from the fact that any ol' random person got thrown I'm jail, and not care that the true perpetrator was free to keep committing the same crime?

My views on the "Busted" paper... I don't know if it's morally right or wrong. I buy it. However, I don't feel that people should be in it for FTA and driving without a license. i do like to know who's been arrested for the more serious crimes such as drugs, kidnapping, rape, etc. I know they are innocent until proven guilty. I wonder how much trouble it would be to dedicate a page in the back to the ones who ended up being innocent. Just a thought.

Notice that it says "innocent until proven guilty" at the bottom of the pages. Some of these peope were not guilty. This little magazine is unfair and it does not help our community. This is libel.
Nah it's public record. Tricities.com is posting them online for free. Or maybe the times news?

Tri Cities Busted is a rag of a paper that punishes those who are accused without the benefit of a conviction or even a judicial hearing.

Shame on us for allowing the publishers to profit at the expense of these poor accused! The publishers have to sneek and hide because certain retaliation by those who are being injured.

The American Civil Liberties Union will be in touch with the publishers and the local officials who are providing the photos. These parasites haven't been properly sued yet!

If I were to ever be published in that piece of crap, I would sue the pants off of them. Firstly, until proven guilty, we are innocent, that is the law, and ruining someones name and reputation for a profit, is wrong. I am an outstanding citizen, and have never even had a ticket, until the stupid red light camera, caught me and had changed in just 2 seconds. We are allowing local government to take away our rights. We are even supporting this with our "Im better than you" attitude. If you think you have ammunity to being falsely accused, or recieving bogus tickets, just wait, it will happen to you one day.

I am from Rockwood too!

How can WE stand by and allow punishment to be delt out by anyone other than the courts? Not even the police are allowed to prescibe punishment.

And who the hell are the publishers to decide that we should have to appear in this public rag?

The law also says that when they have served their sentence its over! They don't say that you have to be persecuted!

While I'm looking through the paper each week, I am fully aware that these people are innocent until proven guilty. If someone thinks otherwise, that's their ignorance. The people saying they'll sue if they ever end up in there... it's public records. Don't you think they've thought all of that through? You think you're the 1st to threaten that?

I agree with you UGH... It is a public record and anyone meaning you, your mom or dad, your preacher or teacher, your employer, your wife, and anyone else who wants to find out "SIMPLY CAN"... All you have to do is go to the local courthouse or sheriffs office and ask for them... Guess what they will gladly give them to you, IT IS YOUR RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN...

PUBLIC RECORDS ARE SIMPLY THAT "PUBLIC" .... No and if or buts can change that....

If you don't want to be in it, don't break the law, and also, If you don't want to read it, DON'T BUY IT.... YOU have that right too and the choice is ultimately up to you....

HAVE A GREAT NIGHT...:)

Strange. I really do work for the company who distributes them and our drivers only go on Wed so I wonder how Kingsport is getting them on Tuesdays? I'll tell you this my opinion is starting to change about this paper though. At first I was with everyone else saying "if you do the crime then oh well too bad" however as I take calls daily listening to people who are freaking out because they were arrested and shouldn't have been and they want to know how to get their picture from printing I am starting to rethink this. I even have a friend who had his picture showed up in it. I texted him and he informed me that he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation and then arrested because he didn't show up in court. He had to spend the night in jail. The reason: he got a ticket this summer for fishing without a license. Paid the ticket but they didn't show in their records he paid it. Yes they gave him his bail money back and apologized for the error because he was able to prove he paid the ticket BUT his picture is now in Tricities Busted. I didn't realize how many people get arrested when they shouldn't be.
I know you just work for the people who deliver the paper, but I am interested in finding out who actually prints the paper. How can I get in touch with someone from the establishment?
