When you are checking out at hte local Food City and the cashier asks if you want to donate to "Feed The Hungry" or another organization, just politely refuse, say "NO Food City and Steve Smith (the CEO) needs to contribute profits to charity NOT the customers hard earned money"

If you contribute you are making Food City & the CEO richer because FC will take your contribution, get the tax break like THEY gave the money (which was actually YOUR money that they collected) and the CEO gets richer.

IF you want to help others....GIVE DIRECTLY to the organization and count it off on YOUR OWN taxes......DON'T make the CEO even richer.....he needs to step up to the plate and give HIS OWN money to charity....not yours!!!!

Welcome to every charity on earth. Yet it seems most citizens of the US only start getting concerned when it impacts their lives, not anyone else. Do not wait for a big ass turd to hit your local fan, go straight to the turd throwers and make it stop. When shit finally hits your fan, cause you failed to realize it was already happening, majority of the time it will be a "too late scenario".

The only true charity on the face of the earth is human compassion. Which right now is more messed up than U.S.A's magical checkbook.

Ask yourself if you disagree or agree about your compassions, WHY does he bring up me not caring about people.....

You would probably state what ALL you have done for "charities" or helpless people. Yet instead of reciting such things, how about realizing your naming what you did to make yourself feel better.

A true selfless act is about as rare, as a southerner asking for non sweet tea at their favorite health food store, and purchasing a peace over war bumper sticker for their electric car.(No this does not cover me also, I love my sweet tea and horrid food choices.)

Sooooooo....You won't donate to say GoodWill either? The only reason I ask is because they take in your old things and then turn around and sell them to make a profit. In the long run, WHO CARES who is taking a tax break on it? It's going to a good cause and most of the American people out there don't actually donate enough to claim it on their taxes anyway. As mention, charity is a selfless act. Who cares whos making a little bit of money as long as it is going for what its being said its going for.

How do you know it really goes to charity CHAMPRUNNER?
We KNOW Food City is getting richer with YOUR donated money.
You missed the point......point is....WHY doesn't Food City donate from their OWN PROFITS and stop irritating the customers by asking for donations?

The whole premise of the thread is wrong and dripping with paranoia and assumptions. Food City, nor any other retailer gets a tax break on these donations. It's untaxed on the receipt. If you save the receipt, you can claim the tax deduction if you itemize at the end of the year.

On the second point and I think what bub was getting at, basically every retailer does this, so it doesn't make much sense to single out food city.

Tank --- Of course it's not taxed on the receipt.

The PRINCIPLE is: Why is Food City too stingy to give up their OWN profits to benefit a charity?

And YES, Food City would count the funds YOU gave at the register in the total going to the charity and YES Food City shows that amount (the total) as charitable which qualifies Food City to pay a lesser total tax....which in turn makes the CEO richer.

My point is: Food City took YOUR money to enable them to pay a lesser tax.

There is no singling out.......when asked by ANY business, politely say "no thanks...your company should give"

I file a LONG TAX Form every year and if anyone wants to contribute THEIR money to a charity, I will be glad to collect THEIR funds, channel their funds through my business, donate THEIR funds to a charity (in my business name) and I get a huge tax break because my business contributed a significant charitable amount thus lowering my total taxes.(by the way.....my business has NEVER bummed customers to donate)

It's simple arithmetic.

You don't get it TODAY.......the money does NOT go straight to the CEO......but if you own a business and your business gets tax breaks for making contributions to charity, then the business gets richer.....the CEO is paid from the business thus making the CEO (owner in this case) richer.....do you really think Food City is taking up donations out of the "goodness of their heart".....no it is to increase profits......HOW?.... by getting a tax break for making a charitable contribution with YOUR MONEY (not their money)....they are trying to play on your sympathy for the "feed the hungry" contribution you give at the register .....not because they really care for the hungry....it's a tax break.........it's simple arithmetic

It's not tax deductible because it is not income. There are no taxes charged on your receipt when a donation is made.

If I am wrong (and I doubt that I am), then you should cite your sources that this is true. Otherwise, stop spreading false rumors and accusations about a company that donates a lot of money to our community.

Food City is also an ESOP company. So their employees (not just the CEO) profit directly from earnings. What you say could have an affect on them.

It akes NO difference if taxes are charged on your receipt.

ALL charitable contributions are deductible by the company.

My point is: YOU are giving YOUR MONEY to make someone else richer.

IT IS YOU (not that company) that is giving money in someone else's name. And yes they DO INDEED get a tax break.

And my source is:

Read it and then think about it!!!

I do not think that is correct. You can write that donation off on your taxes with the receipt showing that you've made a donation. That means the company would be double dipping on the donation.

So, if your accusation is correct then you should cite your source that they are doing something immoral or illegal rather than spreading rumors or making assumptions that could cause a company harm.

The source you cited is for personal taxes. Every dolt and his mother knows that donations are tax deductible.

Oh you know how much we hate 'rich' people! Who says that? Besides idiots ? They are solicited by the charities to do so. Actually it costs them to give their time accepting donations from millions of customers and they gain nothing other than credibility. Don't make FC richer is a typical local ignorant hater. Tell ya what, let's hope they have a crisis and go out of business. Maybe that would make you less miserable! No, you will just hate some other innocent undeserving entity or person, you ignorant miserable hating fool.

Sounds to me TODAY is the angry hater .. Don't make FC richer is providing sound community service here and some closed minded sheep are on here drumming up the hate vibe....
Everybody and their mothers brother know about charities of you want to give great grab and phone book or computer site and do your thing.I however have no time for corporate beggars at the check out counter of the businesses I'm supporting by purchasing their products.
