Do you think there should be a drug test before someone qualifies for welfare or food stamps?

No, I think it would be more harm than good. Lets say we take the welfare away b/c of a failed drug test, then not only will they be stealing stuff for drugs, they will also be stealing food. If thye have kids it would only hurt them. But I do see your point.

No way! It's best said by "More harm than good" If they have kids it would only hurt them. I do think welfare/food stamps should be monitored more to reduce the people who use them (trade off) for drugs and such.

I absolutely do think that drug tests should be implemented. I think it should be done periodically too. If welfare/food stamps were used as they were meant to be (as a means of helping families get back on track in a hardship and only for the amount of time necessary) it wouldnt be that big a deal. People get the stuff and give up on work. Which makes it harder on those of us who work hard for what we have. If it was made more strict and actually kept up with, 1/2 the undeserving people would be knocked off. All the thieves and addicts should be cracked down on. HARD.

The next logical step (not really logical but Liberal Logic) would be to give them aditional monies and free drug rehab - on the taxpayers dime.......
I fully support the "hand-up not a hand-out" type of welfare. If you are not elderly or disabled , you get a minimum wage job (such as the old WPA type jobs) and the Government puts your sorry butt to work rebuilding the infrastructure of this great nation. Otherwise - starve.
I believe in charity for the "sick, lame & crazy" and have no pity for the "sorry, shiftless & lazy".
I would also like to see a mandated Government service period of 2 years at age 18 - this would be your "voter registration" and it could be either military or in the above mentioned programs.
I would also like to see mandatory sterilization on the 3rd child born to an unwed mother on welfare......AKA the "Octomom"

I agree fully with most of your post. The exception being the mandatory gov't service. But thats a whole other debate. I agree fully with the sterilization thing. Even on deadbeat fathers. And yes, they need to GET A JOB! Drug test them every 30-90 days, and randoms in between. If found "dirty" terminate benefits immediately. Make them keep gainful employment, if unemployed, require job hunting with at least 3 job applications a week called and verified by the govt agency, if still unemployed after 6-8 weeks, re-evaluate the reason why with the individual/family and put to work on some of this infrastructure. There is work out there. I dont care what anybody says.

So that there is no risk to the children, I say 100% yes on the drug test. If you're caught with a positive test, put the children under the care of a willing relative, and terminate all welfare benefits for that person until they have went 6 months without a positive test.

WHO'S GONNA PAY FOR THESE DRUGTEST? Yep us the tax payers. like the last comment I left. I had second thought's after talking to my partner in crime lol, and we both agreed on surprise random once a year drugtest. And for food stamp and welfare people should have to carry log books like a trucker does.
Tell were they went, when, how much they spent and time, date. Should all have to poss. I.D. with any use. this way people couldn't trade for drugs or such. Each welfare/foodstamp person could only use these because of the I.D. anyone agree?

The 2 year mandatory service gives the youth of this nation an opportunity to see the real world, up close with all the warts. The Liberal propaganda being spoon fed to them in "public" schools is so far out of touch it's unbelievable to me and not many people are as involved in their childrens lives as I was. I have an adult daughter who got the real history lessons at home - and she didn't hesitate to call out her teachers when they tried to spread the propaganda in her classes.
Obama was swept into office by the young and the Idealistic Left - neither of which seem to have any contact with the real world. Check out some of the liberal blogs.
"Progressive" is code speak for socialist , and was adopted by the American Socialist Party just before WWI because "socialist" and "communist"
had fallen out of favor with the general populace. They became the "Progressive Democrats" and "Progressive Republicans" the latter of which faded out after TR split with the Republicans to run again. He lost.
Progressives gave us
income taxes and the IRS
social security
welfare
unemployment insurance

As an addendum to the above though Bush version 1.0 certainly embraced much of the Progressive agenda without coming right out and saying it.
His "New World Order" slip of the lip was straight out of the progressive movement, thankfully he was limited to one term. Then came the Clintoon era. He simply picked up where Bush 1.0 had left off - he got Nafta passed - but it was 1.0's deal.He was actually a much better conservative than Bush 1.0 and worlds better than Bush 2.0. Everything considered - he wasn't a bad President - for a total scumbag. Bush 2.0 was a ne'er do well rich kid , and EVERYTHING he touched turned to crap. His "dumbass redneck" personna was almost certainly a cultivated image to distract everyone from the fact he was giving control of this nation to "Big Bidness".
If that makes me a cynic - so be it - because I am very cynical of the Two Party System nowadays, it's getting harder and harder to tell them apart.....We need a new political party - the
"Less Government is Good Government" Party
or "LG3" who remember why this nation was founded - freedom and liberty and to escape government tyranny and taxation.

I agree thet the 2 party system is F'ed. I have been saying that new parties should emerge for a few years now. There are movements out there, but their words are stifled by the liberal media. Something has to give. The media cant cover up the socialist agenda much longer. Its already exposed but some folks actually need a pop culture figure to tell them. Alls I'm gonna say is be ready when the SHTF!

i think all people on welfare and food stamps (excluding the elderly and disabled) should be tested.
all you people that are aganist this idea because you think kids will suffer need to open your eyes. these people are not taking care of their kids anyway. they are on drugs. druggies don't care for their children. they put all their energy into getting drugs.
let them know up front that there will be random tests and if they test positive they will not only loose their welfare they will loose their kids.
it's high time to get these kids away from these worthless junkies anyway.

There's a lot of common ground to share on this subject.

I have held the opinion for many tears that there are only two classes of people in this world...
Those who Work
Those who Depend on Those who Work

It's a touch of Marxism - but it's true. The problem starts when the Dependants outnumber the Workers ability or willingness to provide for them. This administration is determined to add Dependants under the illusion that the "government" will provide for them....the problem is - we provide for the very existence of that government - without a choice of how those coerced dollars are spent.Given the opportunity to determine how my tax dollars were spent:
5% to run the business of government
20% for the poor and sick
10% for education
5% for NASA
60% for National Defense
In no case should my TOTAL tax outlay to state and federal government (regardless of the taxation method)
EXCEED 10% OF MY TOTAL INCOME!

I am a moderate independent, liberal on some issues, conservative on others and in the middle on others, despising both the left wing nuts with their political correctness, irresponsibilty rewarding and whining...AND the far right wing nuts, with their NOISE, greed, hypocrisy and ties to the religious right and big business. I DO agree with a lot of what you said in your post. Maybe not sterilization for unwed welfare moms, but maybe CPS should be called! LOL--I agree about the octomom--watta irresponsible B***H! LOL!
