cause it's smoke and mirrors. the pr stunt of lying to the press might possibly gain them an extra month or two of "good image", so maybe they can get a few more leases renewals signed before the cat's out of the bag. anybody that believes them at this point really need to wake up... how long has it been called "town center" when all the signage except for a few 8.5"x11" printed papers that are taped to the door have the old name still

Well maybe they're going downhill but woopdeedoo. You can only do so much for so long in one big building. Maybe they need to renovate. That's just life in the business world. Hopefully we'll have a better mall in the future.

Walked down there from my break and looked around and I can say no, they haven't. Walked down the hall (behind marquee, LensCrafters, and opened one of the theater doors, And nothing. Screens, seats, carpet on the walls, and all of the equipment are gone. the concession stand is gone. figured it would have been just seats. Called city hall and they transferred me to some one who said no plans for that location have been turned in. I asked about marquee, and they have. I think one of the above post about smoke and mirrors was right. I would guess as the leases expire, people will move elsewhere until one of the anchors leave. I know we will in two years or so. They are looking at east stone commons just like everyone else

Site update

Last two weeks, close to 8000 yards of dirt have been moved, all of the erosion control measures have been erected and site drainage is being established. The borrow pit road has been established and fill in the building pad has started. Weather has been a factor, but the first dry day we will be back to work. We currently have 5 pieces of equipment on site working with 7 trucks on stand by once the first lift has been established.

Thanks

is franks theater stalling or balking on deal because if they do the mall needs give all that money back to city that was going to be used for IMAX

They haven't taken any money. A pilot program simply does not tax your property (new construction) an amount for several years until a agreed amount is "given". It's a better system then the older TIF because the city don't need to shell out a bunch of cash for getting somthing in. Many down sides, but for a cash strapped city, it's the only way to do it. The paper said 8 million, which is what marquee said they were building. I'm still confused about what They are doing. Is franks building 40k new on the outside of the mall plus an IMAX? That's what the the first story in the paper said a year ago. Or are they going into the spot marquee built, which isn't new, and not count. my guess the city will pass it regardless.

Sorry Sean to be negative towards the mall, but in the best case, franks does build a bowling alley, new 12 screen and an IMAX, bumper cars, and several restaurants, that's not going to keep sears and JC penny from having the problem they are having. Ask yourself, if you had the cash to build all of that then why not put it in Johnson city where you have more return on your money. Also, when has the mall done anything they have said they were going to do? Franks said they were going to be in the mall June of last year. Why spend my tax money on a building the owners won't take care of.

I agree. The paper said marquee was kicked out of the mall, so the reason kingsport is without is the mall. The sails tax the theater and related traffic to the mall is lost because they did not want marquee to be in operation once they found out they really were building in a new location. They caused this problem, and I don't fell they should get help for causing the problem. Agree?

Don't look like anything is going on at the mall. Same story different day. What about all the other things they were going to build? The IMAX is going to be built out side the mall right? Do ya see anything going on there? Nope! I want just a theater here. I want to see die hard in kingsport and the mall kicked out the only place we have. I can't wait till the place finally kicks it and it goes to someone who can do good with it. The people who have it now are just letting it go down hill sucking as much cash from the place they can, spending as little as they can, then making the city pay to "keep the mall alive". The mall should have never kick the one guys out if they were paying. They should have built the new one with the old guys still showing movies. GREED GREED GREED

I just saw that the theaters are closed in the mall today. I had no idea. I know they are building more inside the mall and Marquee is building a theater close to K-mart but as of right now, there are no close, local theaters in Kingsport.
