Who is going to invest up to 21 Million Dollars in a hotel in St. Marys ?

Add a little interest on the note and you would have to get over $2,000 dollars a
day seven days a week 365 days a year just to cover the note. I don't see how it will work. Labor, lights and the towels sheets etc. carpet cleaning grass mowing you name it you can add another $2,000.00 a day. Now you are looking at an impossible situation.

Who came up with this study anyway ?

Lenny when did the ICW change. you must not fish that much or you are lost
Jekyll to the North, Fernandina to South, are long established ports directly on the intercoastal way.

Neither are building hotels to meet the demand from boaters.

Because there is no demand. The study never claimed a new St. Marys waterfront hotel would be occupied. Just that it sucked less than all the other options.

How much did we the tax payer piss away on that useless study? 15-20 thousand?

Why does this always get into 2bit pissing contest?

Opinions or facts take the snipping someplace else.

That's probably in the works.
Ironically, there was a white, 18 passenger van with a city decal on the door cruising my neighborhood this morning. Passed by twice with only the driver at the wheel. No, seriously.
Too smart for us you are, oh wide and fragrant one.
The van was white so that you would not think it a threat, and annihilate us with your awesome arsenal of heavy-caliber, high-volume weaponry. The 18-passenger capacity was so that, if we were able to surprise you, your ego would fit in the van. The city decal was the Mayor's idea. He said it would lull you back into your normal sense of moral and mental superiority. It passed by you twice because, on the first pass, the driver...short of sight...mistook you for a beached whale.
Once again, have exposed the assimilated minions of the People's Republic of St. Marys for the utter fools that we are.
We acknowledge your superior intellect and tactical brilliance. We have advised the Governor's Office that we are surrendering our position in St. Marys.

Downtown St. Marys is a great place to live. A historic area on the intracoastal waterway? What's not to like? Nice people, clean streets, little to no crime, great school. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Most of the negative people on Topix are just a handful of whiners and weirdos who don't live in the downtown section and are jealous of anyone who does.
You don't even know what the Intracoastal water way is. If you did you would not have made such a stupid statement.

I understood his point. I'll bet all you English professors that T.W. Never took a handout from the Government.

I arrived in SM 1978...downtown currently looks the worst ever but it's a great place to live. The people are friendly and they love their town. I love it myself. Public funding should be invested in maintaining and improving what we have downtown instead of impractical studies and projects. The "tourist trade" in SM consists of Cumberland Island and a small and seedy historic area. SM can't compete with Fernandina nor Glynn county ...they have much more to offer and they are beautifully maintained. Whatever happened to the St. Marys Beautification Committee nee Board appointed during Eskridge's administration? Anyone know?
