Running as an independent candidate he doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected. First before he can qualify he has to get about 2000 signatures on a petition. That in itself may keep him off the ballot.

You can bet anyone connected to the SO will be afraid to sign the petition for fear of their jobs.

I know this will be hard for you to believe, but I have talked to a few deputies. I am not friends with them, just know them casually. They have all told me the support Tommy. Just thought you might to know that all of the SO is not afraid. Good for them and the rest of the upstanding citizens of this county.

A lot of people have problems signing their name on anything these days. Time will tell. If Proctor wants to get the signatures he'd best start circulating the petition soon. I haven't seen or heard anything about when and where to sign it.

The problem with this statement is there are more than a few deputies that work there. Most of the deputies I talk to say they are tired of wondering from day to day whether they are going to have a job, and that the morale is at rock bottom low at the Sheriff's department. But in fairness to the truth, almost all of them mention that at least they don't have someone cursing and screaming at them like the former chief deputy did under Bill Smith.

Jim Proctor is a good man.

While I'm sure his intentions are good, his candidacy will cause many who would have voted for Gregory if only to keep Bill Smith out to not bother to vote on July 31st.

The very real possibility is that that will give a thin margin of victory to Smith.

Obviously, if that happens, Smith's chances of winning in November will be increased 100% compared to what they would be if he lost in the primary.

If Proctor's candidacy puts Smith back into office, then God help us all.

Petitions are out at some locations already. So What, it takes 1500 signatures, not 2000. Old news, do you really believe that a deputy working for TG would publicly state they were voting for another candidate given Gregory's habit of firing people on a whim? As to the quality of the candidates, there's no question that Proctor would best serve the citizens of Camden. And for Moreno who will rebut that Proctor is a Smith man, his man Gregory was a command staff Smithite, in fact the man doing the budget for years. He only saw fit to complain about expenditures after he lost his job. Why would one wait years and years to blow a whistle on something they were involved with from the onset? Oh yes...personal gain.

I too think that Jim would make a better Sheriff than Tommy Gregory, but if Jim wanted the job he should have qualified to run in the Republican Primary, or as a Democrat in the fall. To run as an independent candidate puts him at a tremendous disadvantage from the start. Independent candidates almost NEVER get elected.

In general I agree with your comment about Independents/non-partisan candidates. This particular race is different from the norm. Like JoJo, I think Proctor has a careful and well thought out plan we will see unfold shortly.

Being on the ballot as an independent will not matter in this election because of the man behind the name. Jim will have the signatures before Tommy and Bill even realize whats happening.

Rich Gamble thought. Good luck with that.

Yes, only 1,500 are required, but it will probably take 3,000 to get 1,500 VALID ones.
