I know a lot of people have been here much longer than I have but since I been here I've only seen mostly hotels and restaurants be built! With that being said, I'm guessing the only thing you can do is eat and sleep! This area can be much nicer if more money is put into it! Thoughts.....?

We need more strategic/logistical minded elected officials. Currently most of the ideas being floated are beneficial for a few but detrimental to the community as a whole.

Case and point: Express Scripts, water/sewer fiasco in St.Marys, water/sewer via JDA for unincorporated areas and amusement complex scheduled for Kingsland.

The amusement thing will never be built so I would not worry about that one

Adjusted for inflation, the budget for the JDA has been static for about 2 decades.

If anyone on the county commission or in the city governments were serious, they would turn over ALL
development efforts to te JDA, close down the competing city efforts, and inrease the annual DA budget from $280,000 to $1 million folowed by a full court press for new business.

We should be advertizing in every industry magazine or journal apt to be read by domestic and foreign CEO's who might be looking to expand or relocate.

We should be concentrating our relocation enticements in heavily unionized states without right to work laws.

We need manufacturing of some type. Something that requires skills. But we need a way to train those workers.

Yes,i agree, but implicit in your statement is the local contention by former mill workers that no jobs but overpaid union jobs are good and desirable jobs.

Wrong. From the perspective of the needs of the un and underemployed and the good of the local economy, per se, there is no such thing as an undesirable job.

I have worked both union and non-union jobs. A job is a job. There is both good and bad with unions. Where I work the pay is good and the benefits also because of the union. However I do not always agree with the pay scale. As in someone with no skill set or training makes almost the same as a master electrician. But that's good for them. I guess I am one of those over paid union people you seem to dislike.

How do you feel about union make-work rules?

Like when you shorten a length of pipe, if the cut-off short length is over a certain lenght - in inches, as I recall - you can't just drop it and go about using the piece you wanted but must stop and immediatey thread both ends of the short piece, even if it is destined for the scrap bin.

Local 188, Savannah, early 70's.

How is that not stealing from the employer when that pissed away time is billed on the time card?

We do not have any make work rules such as that. And I have never worked anywhere that does. We don't like when others perform our jobs, such as a supervisor or a contractor.

I agree. I have worked both union and non-union jobs and I have not had to contend with "make work" rules. I'm sure that they do exist but I don't think they are as prevalent as some seem to believe.

That's a good thing. Unfortunately, they have every reason to believe they can get away with murder under this admisinistration.
Look for increased, thuggish, unionization efforts

Where they seem to be the strongest is government workers unions where they are still growing. The unions are on the decline elsewhere.

Gun manufactures in Illinois have already threatened to leave the area if laws limiting guns are put in place. ArmaLite owner Mark Westrom told FoxNews.com that hes been fielding offers from at least two others states to move his operation if gun control laws in Illinois are pushed through.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
