A "truly trying JDA director" with zero results won't get anybody a job. No one I know is questioning if Keating and Jones aren't wonderful people. It's all about scoreboard.

When the ship is sinking you fire the captain. Apparently you've never held the position of captain.

So what you are saying is if we spend 2 million dollars on something they will come right.
Didnt they do that with the sub-school?
Why not ask a company to put some skin n the game before putting taxpayers in it first.

<quoted text> Billy Hope is one man....one vote. Since they are clueless (and I agree they're in a rowboat with no oars) what specifically do you recommend as a solution. Don't come back with "industry"......beca use obviously Camden as a whole needs some industrial base, but how YOU would entice a manufacturer to locate there if you had the power to do so. And no, a frigging spaceport, seaport, or Wally World are not viable solutions. There are already non operating spaceports, enough seaports, and Disney is right down the road.
For starters, I'd take away their ability to issue press releases. I was privileged to watch some of the behind the scenes efforts when Jackson Co was courting Caterpiller Fuel Systems, and it was all very hush hush, until the deal was done. Then they trotted out the politicians and let them take credit for it.

Let's be honest, most of the really great prospects are going to go through the state economic development office first. That's where the bulk of the incentives come from. I understand the state brought the folks that were sorta kinda looking at the Union Carbide site. If there was any interest at all, issuing a press release trying to take credit for that deal killed it.

If he had a board and a CCBOC that were TRULY hungry for results and willing to pay the price, we would see results.
I agree. Problem is to many chiefs. Each city has one and then there is Camden Partners and who knows how many more Thornhill comes to mind. It is a stain on one's reputation and JDA director is catching it from all sides. He can not win no matter what he does that is why the system in Camden County is broken and these businesses are leaving.

Corys Thunder was in St. Marys for 5 years and has been trying to find a location for expansion for 2 years. How much do we have to pay to hire a JDA director who would know this and would help growing industries to find room for expansion IN CAMDEN COUNTY?

Had they been looking to expand HERE, don't you suppose they would have contacted JDA or at least a Realtor or two.

My guess is they were looking to move out of here, not expand here.

Well, if the Gals over at the Tribune can get Davy to respond to their inquiries maybe you wouldn't have to guess. One thing is certain like many before them and probably the few that are left they will be closing their doors.

Try as you will, you cannot excuse either Keating or Jones for not even knowing that Rolling Thunder existed and not trying to keep them from moving.

Who was the idiot who wrote up the MARITIME HERETAGE DISTRICT proposel? Fire him/her. What a piece of work!!! Another attempt by a handful of downtown types to get their fingers deeper into the St Marys bank account. You and I, property tax payers, are subsidizing these special interest committees, boards and authorities that are running St Marys. What is our clueless and gutless city council doing about our high property tax and high water and sewer bills?

Nothing... and you can add the w/s bond debt. to the list. They will pay the minimum interest required and push the capital down the road for generations.

Never heard of them. I thought that was the name of the annual gathering of biker exhibitionists feigning concern for MIA's that flames through DC every year.

Have you ever heard of Corys Thunder? We pay Keating $94,498.56 per year and he never heard of them until last week.

I thought a group of leaders in the community had formed an organization to work together to attract business. What has happened to this and will it cut some jobs or considers the services?

The organization to do that is the JDA. All others are counter-productive dilutions of resources and duplication of efforts.

The JDA results speak for themselves . It's like paying at the door for a buffet dinner to only find the tables empty. Year after year after year after year.

Has the JDA ever attracted a business that the city did not give more to attract than they received?

Attract business? With the exception of a few small short term shops the St. Mary business model is like a sinking ship with the rats fleeing. Only in this county/city do we fail to hold the department directors directly responsible for poor results.
