The people of St. Marys, if lucky, will have a choice, the expansion of downtown tourism under the so called Maritime Heritage District or retiring the water/sewer debt.

The Maritime Heritage District plan has been on the back burner waiting for the approval of splost 7.

Remember splost 6 promised 80% of revenue for infrastructure and delivered less than 18%

If the Maritime Heritage District gets the green light it guarantees that the benefit to the general population will be higher taxes and more restriction to our resources.

Anyone with a bit of common sense should realize the active proponents of splost 7, Chamber of Commerce, Real Estate speculators, narrow minded politicians do not have the best interest of the general public at heart.

The City of St. Marys need to get its house in order. Priority #1 pay off the Cities last 44 million dollar speculation plan.

Stay active, attend meetings, call/e-mail the City Council. We've seen this bait and switch tactic before.

Once they get a foothold there is no stopping this group.

Lived in a harbor town with an historic district. Once they expanded to the bay they initiated a Yacht club. The membership included the positions of Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore and a host of other A-holes. I kid you not.

The local population was pushed out of downtown because of property tax increases. Millage rate increased across the board.

Once initiated you can never go back to the good old days.

The problem is the lack of interest and or participation of the electorate. For some reason people here just exist. They don't get involved. They feel their government is doing all things legal. They're basically clueless!!!! Charlie and crew are capitalizing on this mental apathy.

By the time the community shows disdain for this plan; Charlie and crew will have at minimum 3 TAD Districts. They will collect all of the taxes in those districts, making these districts high end. Everything not included in their TAD District will become slum. And the community once known as Camden County will have no one to thank but themselves and of course Mayor Smith. They could've never implemented their plan without him getting the first TAD passed in Kingsland. He is such a treasure to the community!

Will the city publish the payment plan for burying the water/sewer bond debt? Are we not worthy to be privy in sharing this knowledge with our leaders?

If the past is a clue the answer is no.

We do the heavy lifting and must demand change with transparency.

I can not believe people f St. Marys wa saying SPLOST-7 was/is a good thing it is a SLUSH fund for the so called leaders.
We have Deloughy with a degree in ACCT. from Rutgers and a masters degree in business from Seton Hall. He thinks its best to justpay the intrest on a bond is crazy glad my dad just went to Wayne County High School they taught him debt is the number 1 killer of everything i business.
We need to stay on top of this SPLOST and with them only paying 4.5 million to bond.
Theysit there and say its a simple intrest bond with a no penalty early payoff then stop spending and pay it off.

As for theother bond thas has a early payoff penalty. I looked at several other bond like that on and its a penalty of .05%-1.5% penalty.
Simple math tells me if we pay that one off and put those payments into a SAVINGS account you will make 3% as long as they have the control of not spending it.
One last thing why is there a "YOUR SPLOST TAX AT WORK" sign up by the old giman house. Was it on SPLOST-VI and I missed it.
If Roger Weaver and council wants to give away the bank to the STEEL AWAY isup to them. But if the STEEL AWAY is goingto make this heir home they should pay Ad-Valourm tax to the county like th rest of us do.

A splost sign at the Gilman Boat House? Is the City Council jumping the gun on the Welcome/Convention Center or better known as the Elitist Palace for cocktails and sunsets?

Lots of bucks left in splost 6 to get this project moving. The Steal Away deserves better.
