Then let them stay at your house, thats what I would do if it were someone I cared for. I hope that answers your question.

hummm i see this man everyday ride his red bike back and forth his sitting area. yes he has been there for years. he does not go up to cars unless someone hands him money. yes he is working off the good will of others. it makes the givers feel good and him money. win win for both i would say. i have heard different reasons why he lives and does what he does. heard that he actually files taxes as well....who knows. even heard he was granted a license to pan handle, who knows...us locals know he is there, if it bothers you go to the next exit...or just drive by like i do and keep going. based on the horrible weather that i have seen him sit in and then get on that bike and go where ever it is he goes....well when he actaully does something wrong, i say leave him be. i would rather see him everyday than some of the folks living off the govt and getting in cars i will never be able to afford.

The bedroll is a fake. Everything he sits there with are props. He hides them in the bushes, wrapped in plastic, to protect them from the weather. He probably makes $150. to $250. a day. He is a fraud who benifits from the sympothy of all the tourists who come through here to get gas. Never saw him in a car, but have followed him to the Lakes, where he owns a house.

Well - the man at exit 1 has been there for several years now with his "Homeless and Hungry, please help" sign...he sat across at the Cisco right below the help wanted signs for more days than I can remember. he probably makes more money sitting on his a$$ on that corner than my hard working husband does working 13 hours a day, 6 days a week trying to stay afloat. The homeless man, if he truly is doesn't even attempt to find work.
Which I find truly sad that he cannot even motivate himself to even try to find work. I'd love to introduce him to the homeless man my husband looks after - giving him food when he is hungry and little jobs around the business to earn whatever help he is getting. This man is out front every day waiting on a man to come pick him up to work if he has something for him to do. He makes regular phone calls to several folks during the day looking for any work to earn whatever money he can. he doesn't beg...he tries, he tries hard to make his own way..
So yeah, the bum at exit one really annoys me.
You really annoy me. I will have you know for a fact I have seen him cleaning the parking lots in the surrounding areas from time to time. You don't know him nor do you know what has happened in his life to cause this.

I would help raise the money, more so if it were for a woman and children's shelter. I will admit that there are those who take advantage of the system, but there are also innocent people who need help.I have personally taken in homeless people, and worked hard to get them back on their feet, but I am only one person. Are there at least religious houses which offer aid? What about food drives, like those which go into impoverished areas and pass out boxes. And why the politics? Granted life is in reality sordid, but what about the foundation? Fellow humans, life, helping people because they are human too? When did it become the custom to loose sight of that? When I lived in a shelter, the one thing I noticed in all those who lived there to, was the despair. The absolute conviction that others did not care, and the idea that they could not pull themselves out of the hole. Being nothing but a statistic, a number, how does that help the issue? If we oppose even a place for these people, how can we expect a change? And if we ourselves are unwilling to create the change then what value do we ourselves have?

Based upon all of the people rumored on Topix to be on the verge of being sued into oblivion, maybe we do need a homeless shelter! ;-)

I think it would be cheaper to transport them over to Jacksonville Florida they are set up to handle it better than this County with 4 governments that fight each other all the time.

Just give money over to Jacksonville if they will allow us to do this. I know in the past this would happen. After all they send us welfare folks to fill up the section 8 apts. that is why the drug killings have moved up here.

Camden is not doing very well financially (We are Broke)

Cities and County government has raised taxes little left to give away.

With a homeless percentage in Georgia being 20%, and I am sure it is more if every one was being truthfull about their situation. This percentage alone showes that in Camden county we are in desperate need for a shelter. There is a pastor in our county that has the funds and tried to by one of the motels in down town kingsland, and the city shut him down because they did not want that kind of people in the area. Now I agree we need to have one that screens all the people comeing in but we also need to give them counceling to help them get back on their feet. Most of the time homless poeple get in this homeless mindset that is hard to get out of, it is a true sphycological problem. What we need is people that are for a homeless shelter to go in on these city meetings and make them listen and find a place for it especially if there is already money to be put twards it.

Government should not be involved in any way in caring for the homeless.

Our churches should get together and handle this issue. Who is better qualified?

What the hell are you gonna do with an address? Are you gonna show up on his doorstep and tell him what a low life he is? Seriously, there is no law against being a low life in this country. If there were we wouldn't be footing the bill for individuals to sit on their rear ends collecting government funds and popping out baby after baby. Go ahead and show up on this guys doorstep... We will be reading about you in the local paper very soon.

I think the County & cities should be more worried about bringing industry and business to the area, and not so worried about moving an airport, housing developments, and apartment complexes.
Obviously, finding businesses to move to the area is hard right now, but they do seem to spend an excessive amount of time and money on small issues and fighting amongst themselves....rather than fixing the problems.
As an example.....what is the "hot topic" for the county?
Battling with the Sheriffs Department over anything.
What is the "hot topic" for St. Marys?
Moving the city airport somewhere else in the county.
St. Marys needs to focus on what they have and improving that and fixing that before they move on to any other projects.
The county commission needs to do the same and quit acting like a bunch of children and fighting with the sheriffs office every damn week.
Sorry to go on a rant....but to answer your question......if the county and cities don't start working together and working to "fix" the problems in our area and work to grow our area business and industry wise vs. housing wise.......then yes.....very soon you will need a big homeless shelter.
WAKE UP CAMDEN!!!!
I agree with everything you said except one... I dont think that the airport is about people just wanting to move it just to move it. I believe that the airport has pissed off the Navy because the base is a nuclear entity and therefore a target for terrorism. These small planes that constantly break the no fly zone and all the parachuters who "accidentally" land on base have put the Navy on edge. I think that when they decide to pick up and go back to Charleston where they originally came from no one will have a problem with moving the airport. However, that will be a little too late and the homeless population with climb yet again in this community.
