They also has been on occasion that the local news statio will broad cast somthing as in Camden county family of 5 has been sleeping in their car due to lost of job and forclosure on there home. Children attend school as mother and father seek jobs...also about 3 weeks ago the tribune published a story about a mother and her kids living in there car for more than 8 months!!!...So I am posting this ("blog") to see peoples opnion befor i attend the next local county meeting about building a homeless shelter

I think the County & cities should be more worried about bringing industry and business to the area, and not so worried about moving an airport, housing developments, and apartment complexes.

Obviously, finding businesses to move to the area is hard right now, but they do seem to spend an excessive amount of time and money on small issues and fighting amongst themselves....rather than fixing the problems.

As an example.....what is the "hot topic" for the county?

Battling with the Sheriffs Department over anything.

What is the "hot topic" for St. Marys?

Moving the city airport somewhere else in the county.

St. Marys needs to focus on what they have and improving that and fixing that before they move on to any other projects.

The county commission needs to do the same and quit acting like a bunch of children and fighting with the sheriffs office every damn week.

Sorry to go on a rant....but to answer your question......if the county and cities don't start working together and working to "fix" the problems in our area and work to grow our area business and industry wise vs. housing wise.......then yes.....very soon you will need a big homeless shelter.

WAKE UP CAMDEN!!!!

Well - the man at exit 1 has been there for several years now with his "Homeless and Hungry, please help" sign...he sat across at the Cisco right below the help wanted signs for more days than I can remember. he probably makes more money sitting on his a$$ on that corner than my hard working husband does working 13 hours a day, 6 days a week trying to stay afloat. The homeless man, if he truly is doesn't even attempt to find work.

Which I find truly sad that he cannot even motivate himself to even try to find work. I'd love to introduce him to the homeless man my husband looks after - giving him food when he is hungry and little jobs around the business to earn whatever help he is getting. This man is out front every day waiting on a man to come pick him up to work if he has something for him to do. He makes regular phone calls to several folks during the day looking for any work to earn whatever money he can. he doesn't beg...he tries, he tries hard to make his own way..

So yeah, the bum at exit one really annoys me.

Last year Cap Findig from St. Simons Island came down to Camden with an idea to build a emergency-homeless dorm-style shelter/resource cetner for jobs and other assistance - and there wwere federal grants to pay for it - so what happened with that? politics I'm guessing...

If the homeless shelter is privately run and funded I have no problem with having one. However, I would oppose it if even one red cent of federal/state/local tax money is used. We already have enough government programs that are funded by those who work and pay taxes. I say enough.

We already have a bunch of homeless shelters in Camden County. There called government projects and section 8 housing, its funded by all the people in this country and state who actually are willing to work, and not make living off the government tit a lifestyle. Oh, and your welcome.

So who is supposed to pay for this shelter? How many of you out there have done any fund raising for this shelter. The cities or county can't use tax payer dollars for it.

Camden had a homeless shelter for men and it ran into trouble because of poor management. Same thing with Camden House. Fulton bailed when the ship started sinking. If an audit were done , she would have been in deep trouble. The replacement management was riddled with mismanagement and nepotism. the board is ultimately to blame for not overseeing Camden House.

I was involved in bringing Cap down to make the presentation.
Cap broke ground on the project in Glynn county. There still has not been enough support here, but several of us still support the project and are actively looking for sites and supporters.
