There is a grant that has been issued but Not well Published that only few know about.
You can call One Eight Six Six Four Two Three Eight Zero Eight One.
Reguardless of what you make you can qualify for up to Four Hundred Dollars Credit toward you electric. Everyone with an electric bill qualifies for some amount.
It is worth to make the call to get some free credit toward your electric bill.

I tried the number anon wrote out and it rings and rings.
Rick, you didn't list the same number and that one doesn't work either.
Does someone know about this cause I could definitely use some of my hard-earned tax money put back in my pocket.

I know several that got 300-350 toward their bill. I called yesterday and got on the list and they will call me back in 1 - 2 weeks for an appointment. They were holding it in an office at the old Ralph Bunch high school in Woodbine.
Just keep trying. they may be taking information on someone else. 1-866-423-8081

"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." I don't know who coined that phrase but it is true.

For those who think they are getting "free" help with their electric bill, someone is having to pay more in taxes.

I have no problem helping those who are truly needy but nothing for those who seek help simply to avoid reducing their standard of living for a short period of time in order to meet the increased heating costs!!!

If it is a grant as has been stated before then the money is already there is one large lump sum. The taxes have already been paid on it. Our heating costs for the last 2 months have been 400+ dollars, it has reduced our standard of living to the point of having to choose putting food on the table versus paying what little we can on the electric bill, food has won out on both occasions. This would help us greatly.

If your bill was that high, you need to turn somethings off and lower that thermostat.

I called the number given in a post above and told the lady that answered the phone that I was not applying for funds but simply wanted to know who provided the funds they were dispensing. She said she did not know and would transfer me to her supervisor. The next thing I get is a answering machine telling me to ask my question, give a phone number and they would call me back. I chose not to do that.

The bottom line is that unless it is charitable organization or a altruistic business group then it must be coming from some government, either city, county, state, or federal. In any of those cases it come from the taxpayers. If it is federal then it is borrowed money as the government has not balanced its budget in over 8 years.

Like Stanley, in the post above, I'm wondering why you are having bills in excess of $400.00. If you aren't keeping it too warm or too cool you really should look into the air tightness of your house. You can buy a lot of caulking for $200.00.

call and make you an appointment. they told me EVERYONE qualifies reguardless of your income or what your electric bills was. it is based on the number of people in your home, your income and the bill. my bill was only close to 200.00 for one month and I got $ 300.00 credit. I have paid taxes all these years so yes I am going to get a credit if I qualify for one.

Thanks for the info anon. I called back to the number 866-423-8081 and they confirmed that they were disbursing funds from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). I didn't get into the details of who qualifys or not with the young lady on the phone however, I did go to HHS website and looked at the qualifications. According to HHS a family of 4 could have a income of up to $26,505.00 (150% of poverty level) and still be eligible for assistance. From the site I did not get the impression that there did not have to be a need as long as you met the income level, and to me that is wrong.

Oh, congress appropriated 5.8 billion to this program for 2010, the money anon and the other deadbeats are getting is from the 2009 budget!!

they aren't dead beats because they are low income.

Good for those that can get the grant.
I have never gotten anything for nothing...never.

These folks are taxpayers and just because they do not make lots of money doesn't matter.

I can't imagine having to raise a family on such little income.

Ace, I can't imagine someone starting or having a family of that size with that little income!
