Well I'd like to see him and his five gallon fat head patrol in the summer without ac. He could have tater ride around and fan him off.

How does he feel about heaters, does he expect his officers to freeze in the winter?

What the Chief is getting at is this; because of air conditioning, the officers drive around with their windows closed. When the window is closed, you can't hear things like someone yelling for help, tires squealing as a car leaves the scene of a crime, or the sound of glass breaking while riding through the neighborhoods. The other thing is the stereo in the vehicles and that problem is also compounded when then windows are rolled up. He is right, it is one of the worst things that has happened to law enforcement. Officers need to be a "swivel head" while riding around and pay attention to what is going on around them, not only visually but by listening to the world around them too!

Ok so the Chief thinks that ac is one of the worst things to happen to law enforcement? Well I see his point and True Blue Lions
point as well. But maybe Griffis should lead by example and have the ac removed from his office. That way he wouldn't spend as much time there. He could spend more time interacting with the community and his officers. Still won't be nearly as bad as riding without ac in a polyester uniform wearing a protective vest. I'm not trying to take a shot at Griffis I'm only saying what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Ya know food it's real funny that you see it that way. How do you know how Chief spends his time? I'm sure you just couldn't know that. What I see is that he is always there when it counts. He has much more involvement than the other law enforcement heads around here. He started the community class, he is always at collaborative meetings are examples. Tommy Gregory does not show or send a rep to nothing! I know this on a first hand basis! Chief is very involved in the community and obviously runs a tight and efficient department. Obviously there is a chain of command over there and it's working! At least we have one local LE department that doesn't shame us.

I'll agree with that. Of course Chief Griffis forgot more than Tommy will ever learn.

This is absolutely correct, some people lack the ability to comprehend or read between the lines. Chief Griffis is an amazing leader and all but the sour grapes will agree. WAY TO GO CHIEF!

I can see both sides of this issue.

Why not a high-tech solution?

How about microphones placed at all four corners of the car's roof and one in the middle over the door post on each side?

With speakers in the car, the officer could remain cool/warm and still hear what's going on outside.

When getting out of the car during a stop, a recorder hooked to the same microphones could start recording everything while the officer was out of the car.
