It started out as a way to make huge bucks endorsing insurance plans. Not sure of the politics of the founding entrepreneurs but it has long since gone completely over to the left.
Any conservative who buys anything through them is shooting himself in the foot and America in the arss.

I belong to the American Seniors Association (ASA). Many of the same benefits as AARP but Right leaning and profoundly AGAINST ObamaCare. They are building on their membership and benefits. I think it is $15/year.

As of now is AARP non partisan ans. 54% disagree /45 agree. Fact: AARP made $2.8 billion off its support of Obamacare. As Avik Roy recently noted, "...the AARP aggressively, and successfully, lobbied to keep Medigap reforms out of Obamacare, because AARP receives a 4.95% royalty on every dollar that seniors spend on its Medigap plans. Jim DeMint estimated that changing this would cost AARP $1.8 billion over ten years. Obama reference (four times) in 1st pres. debate to AARP as the defender of healthcare is a total joke. Note that this is almost the same as polling against the (un)afforable healthcare act a.k.a. Obamacare (of course hearing it called this stoked the guy's ego in the first debate ... and what an ego to stoke). When it is appealed what will they call it? Ans. "Not Obamacare? Phony Obamahealthcare? Healthcare passed only via unprecedented corruption by administration and congress cif. The bill was written in closed chambers; 2500 page bill was given to congress to read the night before the vote. A bill affecting 1/6th of the economy was passed using a voodoo parliamentary budget reconciliation procedure that not only was not in the spirit of bipartisan cooperation obviously an end run just to avoid possible congressional scrutiny and a blow up. On top of that there is the matter of the 11th hour bribes given to (how many) at least 3 states including the Nebraska cornhusker deal and the Louisiana purchase deal in which those states were formally given waivers of certain state participation requirements. Otherwise it would not have passed at all. Romney did mention about Obamacare violating the 10th amendment and Obama started to object but Lehrer cut him off. But Romney is correct, the majority ruling written by Roberts noted that failed on 10th amendment grounds but Roberts gave it a pass based on Congressís right to tax. As a citizen I said this is real crap b.s...
