What does everyone think of the BOC budget woes, threat of laying off employees, reducing services to the citizens, reducing benefits for the county employees, citizen's home owners insurance doubling, etc.

Since employee costs are by far the largest part of the budget, that is where the biggest cuts can be made. A government job is not a lifetime appointment, and should not be treated as such.

This just goes to show you the county has it's priorities all wrong. They paid millions of tax dollars on the new Taj Mahal in Woodbine. Bought a $500,000 dollar super tanker that cannot drive across sevral bridges on the Northend of the county or they will collapse. They spend tax dollars as if they grow on trees and they try to hurt the ones who are already struggling. The employees. Have any of the commissioners said they would cut their pay? Hell no why should they suffer? They should all be voted out immediately as they are the one's who have created this mess. The only ones that will suffer are the taxpayers, the employees and the residents of Camden County. The services you have come to enjoy will now be drastically cut Fire, police, EMS and so on. There will be additional costs as a result of this financial mismanagement. Homeowners insuance will go up and crime will increase, but they do have a new palace to store a lot of junk in. Hopefully the voters will remember this come election time.

I agree R/D the huge building and all new office equipment should not have ever been built and purchased. I think the salary of those that occupy could be alot less includeing and foremost the County Manager. He is never around to answer to the public except commissioner meetings. He thinks his shit don't stink and needs to be brought down an notch or two. His blood is too rich for this county. If the spending is messed up he is to blame for mis-management

See those comments just go to show everyone just how ignorant and asinine both of you are. Steve berry was the baby mama of that building. He pushed for every upgrade and authorized every over spending requested. He has also been the author of the Fire Rescue over spending for years. He has Ok'd every lavish wish list appropriation your bosses have come up with. It's about time to bring the over spending and waste to an end by the Camden Fire Rescue bunch. These criticisms and scare tactics by Fire Rescue employees who spend more time on the computer than working for the taxpayers need to end. It's about time they quit riding around and start saving us money.

Mike, I hope you are not as misinformed as you appear to be on here. I do not work for any county government but I have receive reports from very reliable people that have attended various meetings within Camden County. The Sheriff's Department has already apparently cut the hours for it patrol division reducing the money the deputies are paid. One Commission member has stated that the people do not deserve the services they are now getting, but if his family calls for service he wants the county to send everything they have for their protection. At a recent meeting it was reported that the BOC stated they would not support any of the requirements for the Insurance Services inspection of the fire protection rating which could potentially mean that home owners in the unincorporated areas would see they insurance rates double or triple. But the BOC will not raise taxes even if it means the citizens will have to pay more than any potential tax increase would cost. Someone reported the tax increase to cover the short fall would cost each property owner from $50 to $120 annually.

Why in the hell should I have my taxes raised so some SOB who chose to live out in the woods, probably on the River can save on his/her home owners insurance. Tell me Wolfie Please tell me why?????????? I'm not as misinformed as you think . You people have fire stations on every damned corner. When other counties have fires who is the first people they call? US because they know we have more damned fire trucks running the roads of Camden County than we need. All Steve Berry and the Real Estate Mafia wanted was rooftops and retirees. Well now you have them and then you gave them all tax exemptions so deal with it. When the time comes when all these retirees call 911 and no one answers they will realize the path taken by Berry and the Mafia has done nothing but line their own pockets at the expense of the future of Camden County.

The existence of thousands of ignorant, class envious, native, redneck, good-ol'boy progeny-of-Klansmen, white trash such as yourself is the real problem facing Camden County.

The cure is your eventual extinction by inward migration of more urbane individuals and the exodus of your progeny in search of better opportunities. That day can not come soon enough.

"...more urbane individuals" Urbane def.: notably polite or polished in manner. Oh yeah...that's Moreno in a "nut"shell, lol. The most foul-mouthed, bigoted, crude and deranged man in Camden County is calling for a new era of urbanity. Ironic, isn't it?

Impact Fee

Saint Marys, GA

#16 May 30, 2011
And yes, in these times of financial shortfalls and crisis, Rainer, Clark & Keene voted to REDUCE impact fees thereby reducing a revenue stream that a portion of which supported Fire Services, EMS, the 911 Center, to name a few. My suggestion, is to "get up to speed" on the county's budget, ask questions, demand answers, and make informed decision with YOUR POWER TO VOTE!!!!

DON'T BITCH, ACT!!!!!

Yes and the same dumbasses who predicted a windfall of 185 million dollars from impact fees also predicted Camden's population would be 100,000 by now. The county has collected a grand total of $40,000 since impact fees were implemented. According to those same dumbasses we should have had 100 million in the bank by now. So who's the commissioners to listen to. Fire Rescue or the real numbers?????
Impact Fee

Truth be told, the actual amount collected to date is in excess of $120,000. While wild predicitions may not have come true, the bottomline is that Impact Fees established a revenue stream for the county. Now is the NOT the time to turn one's nose up at any kind of financial gain.

At least one poster on here must have really been hurt by fire rescue at one time, he seems to be blaming everything on fire rescue. Doing away with impact fees was probably not the best thing to do at this time, but maybe they were hoping to stimulate more construction thus more money from an increased tax digest. And yes if a homeowner decides to build a home in a remote area they should be prepared to pay more for insurance. My concern is not for the retirees that moved into the county but the retirees that are life long residents living on fixed incomes and who may still have a mortgage. Any increase to them, either in taxes or higher insurance premiums will hurt, sometimes we have to look at which is the lesser of the evils for the elderly.
