I stand corrected.I had advised some one there was a problem and it turns out to be false. Problem is related back to Spencers. Jeremy has been bugging the City and I was told that by a city worker in the City Hall. Looks to me like those that want to know need to find out the facts and the first place would be to go to the meeting. Also I was told that no Spencer has made their concerns known to the Authority. Just behind the backs and never attended a meeting or asked any questions of the Authority. Jason should be representing the redsidents not causing problems.

What seniors are getting the use of the money? How old and how poor does a senior have to be before getting some of the money?

Is the money only for those in the down town area?

Does race matter as to who gets some of the money? Is the "senior slush fund" known to all seniors in St Marys? Is the "senior slus fund" money for use by seniors in the rest of the county?

These questions need to be answered and the answers need to be published in the news so all senior will know about their money!!!

The programs are available to any one over the age of 55 that is a resident of St. Marys. St. Marys residents because it was a St. Marys business funded by St. Marys tax payers. The funds generated are from the sale of the nurshing home owned by the Hospital Authority of St. Marys. It is a progam for those that need the services the Center can provide. Not one single tax dollar has been used. The funds were from investiemtns from the sale of the nurshing home which needed to owned and run by a medical team. That is the Brunswick hospital located in Camden. The City can't begin to fund the programs but the Authority can. Any one that has any concern can come to a meeting and the programs will be explained and the goals. Every penny is accounted for and the City gets the monthly financial reports. Misinformation is the source of most all problems.

Well then, if the Hospital Account was funded by the "St Marys tax payers" why is three million dollars being used as a slush fund for those brash enough to show up with their hand out? Why is the money being used for certain senior's parties and evening meals?

The money should be returned to the St Marys tax payers (council) and the money should be used to pay down the city debt. Why should a few people have access to a three million dollar slush fund payed for by the city tax payers?

You might want to do a little investigating and you'll find out it's the law.

The City cannot use it at all. The money is to be used for indigent care only. The HA has been using it for other programs that are not indigent care related. They have 3 million dollars at their disposal. Half was from the selling of the convalescent center to SE GA Health. The other half was received from match federal Medicaid grants for indigent care which they are not using it for that purpose.
The HA is using the money incorrectly.
Here is the law in question. http://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/2010/titl...

Nowhere in the law is the HA using the money for indigent patient care services. Therefore, it is being used incorrectly. If you do not know what indigent patient care is...google it.

Exceptions to this code:

(D) Hospitals located in a county having a population of less than 45,000 according to the United States decennial census of 1990;

1990 Camden County census roughly 30,000 give or take a few

What does this have to do with the current situation from 2010 to now?

It is my understanding the HA in not in compliance with their audits and they are spending money that is not adjudicated by Judge Tuten.
No where in the this code does it state anything about census requirements. Maybe it deals with match medicaid dollars, but the code referenced above does not have it in the language. If you could please reference the code you are refering to, please do.

Furthermore, since the HA has matching Medicaid grants they are to do the following concering Medicaid services:

to provide services to Medicaid beneficiaries to provide health care services in an efficient and cost-effective manner on a prepaid, capitation, or other reimbursement basis; and to undertake other managed health care activities; provided, however, that for purposes of this paragraph only and notwithstanding the provisions of Code Section 33-3-3, as now or hereafter amended, a hospital authority shall be permitted to and shall comply with the requirements of Chapter 21 of Title 33 to the extent that such requirements apply to the activities undertaken by the hospital authority pursuant to this paragraph.

The HA is not allocating and spending the money need to by law. If you can show something different please reference the information.

it's shameful that there are so many unethical people serving in leadership capacity in Camden. Of course, as with all things bad here, Jim Stein is the Attorney!!!

Why are the members of the Hospital Authority and Airport Authority basically the same people? Guess What? Jim Stein is the Attorney that represents the Airport Authority, also!!!

Unfortunately I think there will be unintended consequences from the opening of this window.

In order to reduce the size of government, one has to take the bull by the horns and wrestle the beast down to the ground. As in any battle, there is always collateral damage.

When things like this have gone on for so long, most people think it is normal. However, it is not normal and the people need to realize what damage the elected leaders have done with their appointments on these boards and authorities. Over half our problems in St. Marys is due to special interests like Frank Frasca.

When good honest people let scumbags be in charge, you get scummy government.

Gutless, lazy and ignorant councils allowed the AA, HA, CVB, DDA, and other authorities, boards and committes to take over the government of St Marys.

Now we have an unelected government of special interest raping St Marys. It has been going on for a long time. If St Marys is looking like a worn out slutty whore, there is the reason.

Come to the Hospital Authority meeting this evening and you can get the correct information. Not half truths and foolish innuendos not support by the facts. No laws are being broken and all funds are accounted for. The concerns should be that those who make the statements are not aware of the truth and have never addressed any of this with the Authority. The meeting is at 6:30 pm at the Ward Hernandez Building east of City Hall. That is if you want the truth.

The HA is using the money incorrectly.
I have been trying to help a friend fight that Ha bunch, but its like trying to get into the Capitol building,(no pay, no play). The Public service operations here in this county is like trying to marry into an ol' Sicilian family!
The CYA begins when they find out you are in the "HAVE NOT" class & not living in one of the Government subsidized "Gated communities" here in CC. The residents at the Extended care facility are treated like animals, they have no emergency back up generator, the HA says they are still doing research, since the sale of the Facility. They tell the public that in case of emergency (a power failure) they just evacuate the patients to Hazlehurst. OTFLMAO!
Where is the new facility shouted about when the Acute Hospital started expanding & is still expanding.Go by & try to get information or ask some questions at the HA or the nursing home & see what kind of response you get.HA!! Check the food quality & treatment of the patients who have special needs...its like trying to talk to the White House in Washington...
I & my friends search almost daily now, for 6 years+ for the real truth here in SM and from it's protecting Mother--the Camden County/Woodbine elected. God luck y'all!

I'm going to give you some REAL TRUTHFUL INFORMATION concerning senior citizen assistance in this town of SM & county of CC.
I know first hand of a nice lady who is 78+ yrs old, she has contributed to this city of SM, for over 50 years (public school teacher for over 20 years),kindergarten open to the public(she owned & operated it), selling & caring for the people who she sold insurance to throughout several years. I met her 7 years ago & her spouse had for 7 yrs. been in the local care nursing home & is unable to speak, partially paralyzed. I have been trying to help her get some emergency help & it is a joke here!!! She has no family or relatives here & she is living in a house that is a fire trap, blown up water heater, sleeps in a chair in the living room in case she has to make a run for it, no a/c or heat working.(she happens to be a "Have Not". I have personally tried to help but to no avail to get her the assistance she needs..
Locally, all we get is typical political, do-nothing run around. No one has shown any interest in helping her in this heart breaking situation. I can't get anywhere, because I am not a family member. I say to all you folks who have known this lady all your lives--SHAME ON YOU ALL! That goes for the "play like" senior assistance centers. Our next move is to go to Atlanta & reveal the truth to the Legal consulate for Georgia Senior Citizens in need. Go by the nursing home & tell her husband how much you care & how she can get the proper care for her life safety & tell him how you will get someone to clean an inch of mold in her carpet (from the water heater). Go ahead...but you better no embarrass her Or hurt her feelings.. Copies of this message is going forth up to the State Ivory Towers, where the decision making elected State elite hang out.. cheers!

Slik Willie - even though her family is not here have you contacted them to make them aware of this persons situation? Have you talked with the Habitat for Humanity people? If you have had conversations with "senior assistance centers" tell us who you talked with. Tell us who is giving you the run around.

Sounds like this patient would benefit from the actual implementation of the law through a Hospital Authority that is denying her the real intention of the law...which is indigent patient care. I think the law is clear to me.

Sounds like that patient could benefit from the services that are being withheld by the Hospital Authority.
