For any and everyone who received the Urgent Message from Deb Hase just hours before the election. All of a sudden just days after the election we find out the Navy does not intend to move the Riverine Forces now at all.

The lies keep coming. The only way to rid ourselves of the Queen Liar is to make sure we vote her out in two years. Qualifying is in just over 21 months. FYI we still will be talking about the airport then and still will not be able to get along as the governing body. The constant need to control everything is getting to be nauseating.

I just read Deb's "Urgent Message" again. About the Riverine Squadrons she said "However, what most of you don't know is that this decision, along with other decisions of the military, can be influenced by the upcoming election in St. Marys."

Gee, I guess the Navy doesn't actually give a damn who's elected in a small coatsal town, huh, Deb? Big shocker there. I have never seen such a blatant example of vote-manipulating through fear-mongering and illogic.

Have fun at the "alcohol ordinance" meeting on Wednesday, Ms Hase. It gives new meaning to "special-interest anti-capitalist".

Yep - and it nothing to do with our airport (despite Deb's assertions). It was a matter of finances. Plus they probably had a far stronger, more persuasive lobbying group than St. Marys could muster.

Navy's riverine squadron to remain anchored in Virginia
Mayport, Kings Bay were among bases considered as new home

Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base and Mayport Naval Station are out of the running as a new home for a riverine squadron.

Former national Navy League president Sheila McNeill said aides with U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston and U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss , both Georgia Republicans, told her the Navy has decided to keep the squadron in Little Creek, Va.

The decision came down to money, McNeill said. Navy officials estimated it would cost as much as $100 million to relocate the squadron from its current location. It would cost an estimated $20 million to refurbish the existing facilities, she said.

Nine sites, including Little Creek, were considered by the Navy. Local officials said Kings Bay would be ideal because of the weather and the many rivers near the base for training.

The decision should not be considered a rejection of any of the bases, said the office of U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla.

“While Congressman Crenshaw believes that Naval Station Mayport is the best location for all Navy operations, the recent decision by the Navy to end the search for a new location for the Riverine units was not based on the attributes of one base over another but on cost savings,’’ said Barbara J. Riley, a spokeswoman for Crenshaw.

It was estimated the 700 sailors and their families would have generated as much as $50 million to the local economy.

“I’m hoping when the economy gets better, they address it again,” McNeill said.“I’m just pleased we were one of the nine.”

St. Marys Mayor-elect Bill Deloughy said he was “not very happy” with the decision.
“It sure would have helped us a little,” he said.“It’s kind of a shame.”

Mayport bases spokesman Bill Austin could not be reached for comment.

"It's kind of a shame" - master of the understatement, ain't he? Instead of constantly lobbying to move St. Marys airport maybe DeLoughy, Hase and Trader would have better spent their time lobbying to have the Riverine Squadrons here.
