Jay has been terribly bitchy this week. Maybe his doctor should increase the dose of his hormone shots.

The Bistro was totally screwed up today. Many waited so long for service that they had to leave to get back to work. We finally got served and the food was good (not great). I will go back--I realize they are having growing pains with new, inexperienced staff. But if it doesn't improve, they will not make it.

Ye, alas, that is one of the inherent dangers of a great Jay review - the post-review surge of new customers.

They will make it. They will flourish and grow. If you do not have but 30 minutes for lunch, that is probably not the place for you. Try Aunt B's or Barberitos just across the street. However, you can call in ahead of time. See their Facebook page.

Once the surge of the curious and the trendoids subsides, things will settle down and they will be able to establish baseline staffing ad stockage levels. I you want to show your ass and bolt in a bratty snit now, that just makes it easier for the rest of us to enjoy a great, leisurely, lunch.

I stopped by tonight for coffee and dessert after giving St. Marys Seafood and More another try for the first time in over a year (about the same - acceptable but not exceptionl.)

The very affable, lovely, girl-next-door, Breck Girl who waited on me was the same one from my first visit. Her confidence and comfort levels have obviously blossomed since last week. She was doing a great job of serving the six or so parties all by herself with assistance with checks from the owner's husband.

Man, I'm telling, their coffee may well be he best I've ever had. It is rich but mellow and not jacked up with added caffeine like they do at Starbucks. It goes great with their desserts. Tonight, I had half of a German chocolate brownie. Outstanding. I could not have made it home without an insulin injection had I eaten the whole thing! Looking forward to the other half with tomorrows afternoon coffee.

Most of their dessert servings will serve any two people at least.

Oh, and don't turn up your nose at the fresh, sautéed Brussels sprouts like I saw a couple do tonight. Bad mistake. They are delicious.

Yes, goodness knows, one simple sentence from you can spell either overflowing coffers, or impending doom for any business you favor with your presence.

(sigh) which is why it pains me so to sit and ponder what might have happened had you simply bothered to give the Cisco's at Exits 1 and 6 the simple favor of a "great review".

Oh, what might have been.

Now, turning our attention to coffee, which you obviously enjoy a good cup of, allow me to entertain your fancy with the precise coordinates of what might be the best cup of joe north of Pablo Sanchezs' burro.

It's the Green Cedar store out in Browntown. Take the drive; you will never regret it (and besides, we're paying for the gas, right?)

Stop by right before closing time, and be prepared to have your tastebuds explode in ecstasy when that first sip of java heads south.

Think about medium bold ground coffee; aged for weeks in a hot, humid warehouse; then brewed with a propreitary blend of shallow well water and injected flouride; placed on a 210 degree warmer for 6 to 7 hours to draw out the full-bodied flavor of burnt charcoal; and then buried under an avalanche of processed sugar and expired half & half creamers.

It was so good, I ran off the road twice on my way home. Had the jitters for almost 8 hours. Peed green for two days. Don't get any better than that.

Try it yourself, and take a pot or two home for later.

You know how it ends. Bon Appetit'.

I personally do not care for the Bistro and Brew...stale cupcakes to go...waffle batter on fish. I have given them try after try and let me say this..they won't be in business another 2 months.
I don't think they are having growing pains...I think they are having money problems and when you serve cupcakes to go in aluminum foil you must have run out of to go containers to serve the 'old' cupcakes in with an inch or two of lard sitting on top as icing.Totally tasteless fare.

Thirty bucks for a meal for one person??

Save your time and money and eat at home.

Vicious bullshit, Mona.

Are you a competitor or just a garden variety liar?

I've had desserts there twice. Both were made the day I bought them and absolutely 5 star quality.

I went to the Sunday brunch today. Three waitresses. Excellent service.

Had a brie omelet covered with sautéed fresh mushrooms and paper thin slices of an extraordinary sugar-cured, smoked ham.
I'm sure the ham and mushrooms were sautéed together. Garnished with ripe, fresh strawberry slices and fresh, succulent, sweet, blackberries the size of the distal phalanx of my thumb.

I also had a delicious English muffin that had been basted in clarified butter then grilled. That was served with fresh strawberry jam that Victoria had made this morning from fresh strawberries.

Folks, I'm telling you, this woman could be a chef at The Cloister tomorrow if she wanted to.

If you are just a cheapskate with Neanderthalic tastes who prefers fast, cheap, boring, refueling over the pleasure of fine dining, this place may not be for you. Might I suggest any fast food refueling depot.

However, if you are a fellow foodie, you will find kindred spirits in Victoria and her staff.

My guess is that the Sunday brunch will become a tradition for many couples rather quickly.

By the way, their coffee is extraordinary. Rich and aromatic without all of that extra caffeine that Starbucks puts into theirs.
You can savor two cups at one sitting and not jump out of your skin.

Oh, and be forewarned, all of their dessert portions will serve two people quite adequately.

I brings back fond memories of Sunday brunch at Gottleib's bakery and delicatessen in Savannah.

Folks, don't miss this one. Be an early discoverer.

Did you ever have the Bistro's chicken and waffles? Well I did and the day before I had their fish -battered with what tasted just like the waffles they served with the chicken.
Look ass wipe, I am not a liar...and that woman is no chef and if that is true then prove it.

I am not a chef nor have I ever attended a culinary arts school but I can put out food far far better than Chef Victoria.

I don't wish any business ill will however that Bistro had three chances to live up to my dollars spent there and failed.

Maybe some folks are just way pickier than you are.
I don't appreciate being served food that should have been thrown out days before nor eating waffle battered fish.

Now run along little fella and pig out on whatever.

Watch and see how long this place stays in business.

Wrapping food in aluminum foil really is disgusting however if the food would have been edible that could have been over-looked.
They surely didn't run out of 'to go' containers along with their ground beef a few days before.

Maybe you alone will keep them in business.

Welcome back, fellow culinary expert!

Did you make the most of your brief time in Internet Siberia? One does hope so.

Sunday brunch at the Bistro. Very delightful. Of course, assuming one has the palate of a starving Cape Buffalo. Still, a very entertaining review. Well written, for someone of such modest tastes.

After all, what is to be expected from a former assistant manager at a Burger King, no?

Did you try the coffee I recommended?

Bon Appetit'.

Mr. Morono writes a restaurant review with such flair, be it Waffle House, Cracker Barrel or the Bistro! Ahhh, to have such a broad culinary palette as Mr.Morono. I am anxiously awaiting the next review.....perhaps, Krystal?!

I'm glad they folded sooner rather than later. Those young ladies were long on enthusiasm and hope but low on capital and experience.
I'm glad they did not loose more than necessary to read the handwriting on the wall.

Lying Mona

Oh, the horror! Food wrapped in aluminum foil!

Dear God, please tell me that aluminum foil was recycled and did not end up in a landfill!

Perhaps Kearns could stand outside the door and offer reusable hemp bags in exchange for the disgusting aluminum foil.
