How can I get information on the 5 W's regarding this?... The Who, What, When, Where and Why:

1. Who did it... Who owns it... Who can stop it?

2. What was someone doing to cause this?... Were they "ripping off" the motor and pump?...or maybe scrapping the brass gate-valve? Or was it just malicious vandalism? What is causing the massive flow? Is it artesian? I was thinking those massive pumps were necessary to draw the water up from 1,000 feet or so down... or has the aquifer recovered enough pressure to cause an artesian flow since those 9 wells have not been drawing 24/7/365 since the mill unfortunately closed.

3. When did it happen... When will it be stopped?

4. Where exactly is it?(In the 50's I remember a well just inside the main gate coming in off of Ready Street to the right in the parking lot and another pump near the car wash, but that may have been just a booster and not sitting atop a deep well). Where is the run-off flowing... Eastward to the North River?

5. Why hasn't the GA Department of Natural Resources/Environmental Protection Division jumped all over this, since this is a known contaminated site and this amount of water will force the contaminants deeper into the soil...into the ground water table and possibly into the aquifer.

This should be addressed as it contributes to salt-water incursion into the Floridan Aquifer... the source of our drinking water.

When the mill shut down, there were artesian wells all over St. Marys coming back to life after many years of sleep.

Someone should get in touch with DNR EPD about the Mill wells.

I sent an Email to alice.keyes@dnr.state.ga.us, the contact person provided by the GA Department of Natural Resources/Environmental Protection Division web site, to report this incident. It was returned by mailer daemon as not valid.
I obtained another contact point from the same GA DNR/EPD web site, askepd@gaepd.org
Two days later yet another mailer daemon informed me there was an unknown problem with that address and the mail would be delayed pending further delivery attempts.
Meanwhile, a former engineer at the mill has estimated the waste of a precious resource at 1MM (million) gallons per day.
While this is not a "catastrophe" on the scale of a major disaster in which lives are lost... it is certainly a matter of some importance and must be remedied as soon as possible.

I wonder what was controversial about this post? I live on the east side of Osborne downtown. My back yard used to be bone dry. Now a third of it stays wet all the time.

Just how long will it take to cap a water well ? We are not talking about a gas / oil well that is burning out of control. We are talking about a rat infested area that adds to the problem of washing the pollution on the grounds into North River.

How in the hell did these attorneys get control of the property ? I have not received any money in a long time and the dribble I got did not amount to 2% of what they owed me.

Oh, you poor thing. If you can't find your way or toddle over to the elementary school across the street, I'll come down and escort you.

The well is NOT capped, we saw it today... It is flowing like a fire hydrant... Just drive into the old parking lot behind the pond on the South side of the property... You cant miss it...

St. Marys is in a period during which business, employment, and people are leaving the little town. I think we could call it a "DEPRESSION"

We need real leadership right now not next week. The Mayor and Council should resign before they can do anymore damage.

As of this morning, Tuesday, 15 January there is a wooden form in place. I assume it is for a concrete cap to be poured to stop the waste of good water. If so, this is very good news.

This is not I repeat not a runaway well. This is a planned event to raise the water level for the new sea port. So cargo and cruse ships will come. This will also help all the tourist to come to see the new water feature in town. I understand a new airport is in the works to help the people get here. And a SPACE PORT too.. This should keep Happy cab in business since until the city subsides their mass transit system and finish having the grounds cleared for the massive parking lot on the mill property. Now the city can build a corporate office on the old Gilman boat house property for the DDA.
