I sincerely in a genuine way hope the City Council can correct the problems that seem to be insurmountable that were created by previous councils.

Kindly list the problems you are referring to then give us all the benefit of your wisdom.

How would YOU "correct the problems?"

What problems? A few hundred more retirement communities and were home free.

That's quite true.

More showers, toilets, sinks, and watered lawns is the only answer.

You need jobs for these people to be able to buy/build the houses for those showers, toilets, sinks and watered lawns. You can not count on the retired to save St. Marys.

The snowbirds aren't coming so; Shut down/mothball all non- essential activities. Orange Hall, library, aquatic park just to name a few that have sucked millions of tax dollars. Use every single penny from splost and all further splosts. Once the w/s debt has been retired we can go back and take a look at all the goody things.

Orange Hall should be given to the Federal Government. We can't afford to Maintain it. It is a burden on Local Government. Who owns it matters little it will always be in St. Marys and can't be torn down.

Another important home in St. Marys is on the verge of being in trouble. The Clark house desperately needs attention. No I don't want St. Marys to take it on.

The real issue is how will we get jobs in the area ?

Will the Navy man take responsibility of the airport like they should have done oh so long ago ?

They should spend the $50,000,000.00 Million Dollars to move it and set it up somewhere else.

This small community should not be held hostage by the Navy.

After all way back when they built the airport in the 1930's the navy owned it.

The Army used it for a time. Then the Navy returned. Navy knew where the end of the runway was when they built Swift land.

Should have thought about it back then.

The golf course on this end and Swift land on the site the golf course sets.

Question: Would it be cheaper to build an airport or move Swift land ?

Well, duh! Like I did not know that.

However, as you well know, hate-filled bastard, I was responding to the prior post.

The truth is making the airport property available won't make any difference.

Last time I checked St. Marys already has ample residential/commercial property just waiting for industry and new developments.

I've never seen a "Do not enter sign" placed on any roads leading to St. Marys.

We've been listening to the same B/S for the last several years about how new construction will save St. Marys. Yet for several years nothing has come and there has never been an attempt on paying down the water/sewer debt.

You speculation "Dreamers" got us into this mess, have kept us in this mess and have no realistic plan of ever getting us out of this "finance for life" water/sewer debacle.

It's not going to happen. The Joint Land Use Study will either recommend to relocate it or modify it in the present location.

Are you kidding? I bet there are numerous single buildings in the hi security area of Swift land (I like that) that could not be replaced for $50 million.

[QUOTE who="Al Pope 7"Navy knew where the end of the runway was when they built Swift land.

They did think about it and did a study in 1980 which determined that the probability of problems were so miniscule that it was not worth spending the money. The airport has has always been a nuisance to "Swift Land". But times have changed since 1980 and the airport has lost any potential it may have had under the cloud of moving or closing. To close it would create an invulnerable on the City coffers. Someone needs to "...get off the pot" and make a decision to develop it OR move it. The City loses by doing nothing.
