Post graduate education is not the priority in Maine. Basically Maine is a poor state, states's budget money is needed for welfare , healthcare, k-12 education , retirement, etc. Maine is one of the higher college education cost states, more financial burden is put on the students in Maine versus the state funding ( taxpayer).
The tech schools becoming community colleges was great idea, much more affordable for Maine students now, and the courses are acceptable at the Univ of Maine system. Wow , what a novel idea in Maine , and California was doing this 30 yrs ago! On the same subject, trying to keep college kids to stay in Maine after graduation by paying them, forgiving portion of their student loans , or tax breaks etc, etc ,etc. Why don't we try to create livable wage jobs in Maine , the schemes by the government are nice but even college kids are too smart for their shell games. |
