"The Oklahoma City Fire Department said they had damage at stations 18 and 22 and the windshield on ladder 22 was busted by hail." Is "busted" proper english? lol.. guess this is Oklahoma after all.

I think he said ladder 22 was busted when the cops saw what appeared to be something illegal thru the windshield.

Dictionaries show the use of "busted" in this context to be correct, although informal. And yes indeed, this is beautiful, proud Oklahoma.

I suppose the dictionaries have changed somewhat since I was in high school. Back then, "busted" was not considered a word to mean something was broken and using it would send my English teacher into a frenzy! She would tell the offender the words "broken," or "burst" were to be used instead. She was quite adamant about it, too. I still cringe when I hear someone use the word "busted" to mean broken. Now I find out that what I learned is outdated.
