You do realize that the Dust Bowl was a result of unregulated farmers trying to fulfill the "dream"? Work hard, get big reward.<quoted text>Did the federal gov't aid the victims of the Kansas Dustbowl in the '20's? Did they survive? And yes, they you should be covered by free market, private insurance. Or rather, ban private insurance and pay it to the gov't, as they can cover you more fairly and efficiently.
And the result was a Tragedy of the Commons on a national scale.
I tend to shy away from any discussions about agricultural subsidies because I'd rather pay a farmer a little now not to till every piece of land to fulfill a free market dream than risk another Dust Bowl event.
And, tell me. What happens to the private insurance companies when they run out of money in the event of another Dust Bowl? Who is going to pick up the slack?
You get to pay more taxes on the bailout while the insurance company execs spend some money on advertising telling you the government is awful.
Socialize the costs, privatize the rewards is not capitalism.
