Funny how it's a record tying year, yet most Riverplace events didn't even sell out (some came up pitifully short) and most observations were lighter crowds, particularly on the weekends. Would be interested in seeing exactly the formula ArtsQuest uses to project attendance, and any "adjustments" that may have been made in recent years. Seams more like PR hot-air to me...

The letter P and the letter R when joined together (to stand for Public Relations...) apparently provokes "****" ??? good-grief morning call.

the day i went it rained and there were still hoards of people. my guess is that people are oddly adjusted to all the rain this year. friends that went on the nicest days said it was a mob scene.

TOTAL FABRICATION!

A more realistic number would be about 400,000 with most of those counted multiple times for having gone more than one night, and the VAST majority of folks being local who simply spent their money at Musikfest rather than some other local business who suffered.

Hotel rooms were available everywhere (except Hotel Bethlehem) for most of its days.

They can never claim less than a million, now that they've set the bar that high. When they finally move the event to a gated area of the Sands complex, you MIGHT be able to get a true indication.

Lot's of negative nellies today, heh? Drove up from Harrisburg, saw the B52's, rented a room, spent lots of $$. Loved those Long Islands at BBW! I can assure you that there were MANY more people seeing the B52's this time around than there were 6-7 years ago when they played.
If I were a local, and I went two different nights, it should most certainly be counted as two and not one. If Warner Bros puts out a movie and you go to see it Mon and Tue nights, does WB count that as one or two ticket sales? I believe the correct answer is two....

the actual attendance number is 1.152 Million NOT 1.5 million.

"Because most Musikfest concerts aren't gated and don't require tickets, its annual attendance figures are estimates based on factors such as the sale of food and beverage tickets."

Are they taking in to consideration the rising cost of food at the event that would require a person to buy more tickets? How about the beer sales? How much of those ticket sales went to one persons beer consumption.
Seems like a flawed system to come up with such a high number.

It doesn't matter if there were 1.5 million, or 1.152768 million. The fest was a success, very few problems and many enjoyed it. Stop whining and complaining. Most people that could take the crowds went more than one time, that shows there was fun and a good time to be had.

Is that why prices are so high, so they can hire people to count people?

You are right. Great event.

However, there is no way Musikfest ever or probably will ever draw 1M people

Well, that's just it. Their attendance numbers are actually pretty absurd, but, they placed themselves there and there's no turning back.

If you accept Musikfest's figures, you place them on par (per day) with the Texas State Fair and the Canadian National Exposition. Texas is a massive event covering 325 acres. Musikfest, possibly 25 acres.

There is NO way Musikfest has the numbers it claims, but, it's their estimate, and that's their privilege. They will not be challenged by area media.
