So, the memorial belongs to the Veterans and the small patch of land that it sits on, belongs to the city. This idea should satisfy everyone. The flag will fly again, and the cross will stay. Perhaps the city will sell the land for a dollar. As they did with the Mojave Desert Cross. But, regardless the price, I am sure people from across the country will donate to it.

Selling it would be the best option. As long as whoever bought it paid to have a water meter put in and a seperate electic meter.

The City will have to charge for water and Duke for electric just like any other business or person in the City. If not then it still is supporting a religion over others. The city should also charge for the up keep of the parking area when use by visitors.

It never should have the flag there to start with.

The only flag that represents Veterans is the United States of America all others should go!

And I should add the good that has come out of all of this, the community is drawn closer and even with people from across the country, new friendships started, and Christian flags are everywhere. I even heard that a huge one can be seen from Hwy 52.

I would think that the water and electric meter would go with it, just as it does when you buy a house. The flag was there from the start and that argument is moot now. You think that it should not have been there and the Veterans thought that it should have been. It is a matter of opinion due to the high court not getting the case. And now we will not know who would have won in court.

The Veterans standing guard at the memorial say otherwise.

Are Christians the only veterans that served? It would only be fair to allow other religious items from other religions there.

The fight will not be over. If sold to American Legion and the Chritian flag is forced to be put back up, the National office will get involved. Because the membership of the American Legion is of all religious faiths. If one Post forces religion upon its membership it will have to register as a religious organtization thereby losing it's status and will not be able to lobby Congress for Veterans rights. This will also go for the VFW and DAV.

The only way is to sale it to a private organization or person.

No Veteran took an oath to the Christian Flag, it was to the United States of American not the United States of Theorcracy.

This Veterans that force religion on others should be ashamed to have ever wore the uniform of an American Soldier. We do not pick what faith or religion to protect, we PROTECT ALL PEOPLE AND RELIGIONS OF THIS COUNTRY AND TO UP HOLD THE "UNITE STATES CONSTITUTION"!

The report says a private group associated with the Veterans. This could be the Rolling Thunder group. And I believe you are wrong, a flag would not make them part of a religious organization. I am sure the constitutional lawyers who are involved now will work the details out. You seem bitter that this is being worked out for the good of all. It's a good thing, the Veterans who worked so hard raising the funds for this memorial, citizens, churches and even "steve" gets what they want.

I believe you're mistaken, all Veterans lose when one group places their religious beliefs above other Veterans. The ONLY FLAG that should be on the Memorial is the RED, WHITE AND BLUE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FLAG. Which represents ALL Americans. You have a problem with that?

One day a Group will put theirs up that is not of your faith, then who will you feel? Just as we do.

BTW I am a Veteran.

This is what I know about the memorial, that the names inscribed on it were all christian and Stokes County residents, so their family members say. People who chose to buy the bricks all knew this flag was there and had no problem with it, if they did I would think they would not have bought the bricks. Now if this memorial was in lets just say DC or Arlington, I would expect that all of their faiths to be flown. I thank you for your service, but I am very glad that this is being worked out for the good of all and yes even for Steve.

I you wish to make a memorial to just Christian Veterans by all means do so. but what I've seen of this Memorial it is to all Veterans of the area, that being said, I'm sure not all Veterans are of the Christian Faith. Why do you keep bring this Steve name up?

Is not the issue the City forcing the Coucils faith on others? Also did not the City fund half of the memorial, at least that has been stated by the City? When you make a memorial honoring veterans it means ALL veterans.

So by this statement they should take the down POW flags that show support for our pow's that are still out there? The one that represents the Army in support of all they do? The Marine Corp? The Navy? No we should support no one but the socialist government that is sneaking it's way in the back door? Is that it? If you wanna live like that did back in the socialists republic where jews were known as traitors...how is that any better than what what you are saying...You must have voted for Obama...you want the government to control what you do..then you can bethe one that bends over and kisses their asses...I support our troops...I believe in CHRIST...and I can do both...you don't have to and that is your choice...but I refuse to let your government CONTROL how I feel or what I choose to worship...Sit down take a deep breath and realize...our government and our country are two different things...but I bet you are wanting this one world order...I will pray for you if you get it...cause WE ALL will need Christ then...

I truly think there is something wrong when we allow one person to stop the Christian flag from flying at the memorial. The veterans raised the money for the memorial and they should be allowed to fly the Christian flag without one person being able to stop them. People are so worried about money instead relying on God to help with this situation. Christians should unite and handle this problem.

It's such a shame that this is happening. There is nothing wrong or inappropriate about flying a Christian flag there. What is wrong with this country? If this offends you, just don't go there.

Wow, you must have thought a long time on that response. Socialist Country, only if you vote to allow it. The last time I checked we elected our representatives and only Congress can make laws. The President can never hold power enough to change that. We have three branches of government to ensure that. Hmmm, little civics lesson for you.

As for my voting, no I did not vote for him. But apparently the majority of this country did. If you wish to change that then I suggest you vote next month.

The last time I check no one was forcing you to worship a specific way. You went to your church, you prayed, you read you version of the bible, no right of any have been taken away. You don't have the right to force your way upon anyone just as others cannot upon you.

Government by the Constitution must and I repeat must stay neutral when it comes to religion. That means any display of a religious nature that would favor one above another. Reading these blogs it's interesting as long as itís your religion you support it. What is it was say Islam, or Buddhist, or Sikh would you then be as supportive for their belief to fly their flag atop a memorial partially paid for by your tax dollars. I think not!

As for the rest of the flags I don' have a problem of the branches of services or of military organizations such as the VFW, DAV, MIA, American Legion as long as they don't push a specific religion upon its members. I find it interesting that you don't have a problem with non-Christians serving for our country and even giving their life for you and me but you don't want to honor them at this memorial????

I'm sure all there on the wall and pavers are not of the Christian faith and some no faith at all.

As far as I have read the City had a panel decide which flags to fly and no public input for any objection. So I will assume that the panel was all of the Christian faith, therefore there were no initial objections. I also looked up your local newspaper from past articles it appears obvious that your City government endorses the Christian faith in your town a clear violation of Church and State.

Ah, your a little bitter because the flag over King's memorial is gonna fly again and that this town rallied together, along with others across the country. It is a good thing, and by your posts, it seems as if you just hate Christians. What has Christians done to you?

As far as I know, no one has requested any other religion be represented. One person complained that the Christian flag was there.
