It has brought the community closer together! We have had a lot of support from the other counties across the state and from other states as well.

It is the veterans who want it back up also. They are the ones who are out there guarding the cross and flag that they brought. The memorial belongs to the Veterans, it just sits on city owned land.

Brittany Jordan Swinson (by the way could you possibly add one more name there?) you're calling people ignorant because they're Christians? If anything that makes you either a bigot or ignorant yourself.

People should care about the controversy as it all goes back & foremost what our country was founded on: "Christian" values. Without those christian values, our country wouldn't have prospered as it has over the years. It's the "slowly taking away of those values" that is causing our country to decline in morals, of what is right & wrong & the manner in which we live. The Christian flag is a representation of those values & beliefs. Representation is the key word. Christians don't worship the flag, it just shows others who we are & what we believe in, just as other religions have their beliefs & flag, it's no different. We, as Christians have the God given right to raise the flag that represents our faith, beliefs & values. Everyone in every state should protest, stand up & fight against anyone who tries to tear down our values, flag & what it represents. King residents should be proud for standing their ground.

I believe this so-called veteran has opened a can of worms that he can't close. True Christians will stand for their rights & values & should fight to keep the Christian flag flying at the Veterans Memorial. You've raised your flag at your homes & business's now...raise the money to fight it in court to keep the flag flying at the memorial!

Inscribed on this memorial and most memorials to Veterans is the inscription:

SOME GAVE ALL AND ALL GAVE SOME.

This inscription is to HONOR “ALL" Veterans that served regardless of their preferred religious beliefs.

We honor everyone who has served and died protecting ALL our freedoms at these memorials.

Veterans don't ask if you’re a Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, etc... When they come under fire, we look next to us and see a brother in arms defending our loved ones and homeland. When one is shot down we grieve for them not asking what religion or faith they were. Because we know they gave their life for their fellow soldier and country.

So why then do we DISHONOR their sacrifice by flying a flag that is not of their faith or beliefs upon a memorial that is suppose to HONOR “ALL” VETERANS????????

When one group of people chooses to fly a flag representing only their religious beliefs they DISHONOR ALL Veterans for their service to ALL AMERICANS. These people show their Bigotry and Hatred towards those of other faiths.

If you want to fly to a flag that represents only one type of Faith or Religion then change the inscription to:

Some "Christians" Gave All and All "Christians" Gave Some and make it only a Christian Veteran Memorial, 100% paid for by private money and on private land. Then fly your Crhistian Flag.

Otherwise you DISHONOR ALL WHO GAVE.

Not all markers at this memorial are of the Christian faith, just as not all tombstones at our National Cemeteries are of the Christian faith. Christians do not have the market cornered on who has served nor how we honor our veterans.

There is no attack upon the Christian Faith or religious rights and none have been taken away nor removed.

But any Veteran or citizen that pushes his or her faith above others should be ashamed for DISHONORING their fellow Veterans of other faiths.

The Memorial was only partially funded by private donations and rest by tax payers dollars, placed on public land paid for by tax payers dollars.

Not all people that live in King nor Walnut Cove are of the Christian Faith nor are they any less of a Citizen? Do they have any less rights to speak up and disagree? Maybe if your not of the "Correct Christian Faith" then you should not have to pay taxes at all for the running of the City of "Christian" King.

The last time I checked all Citizens have an equal voice to express their beliefs and to have thier wishes heard. Remember we are not a full democracy, we a Demcratic Republic which protects all equally. Mob rule is for a theocracy, all you have to do is to look at history to see how that has turned out.

this country is what it is because of God's blessings, and the fact that our people stood for something... they stood for the RIGHT thing.. the only thing to stand for, what really matters.. if everyone had your opinion, stand for anything and everything?? our country would not be where it is today.. you cant be a people pleaser... you have to stand for what is right...

Really? the scariest thing you've heard is that we have bigger things to worry about than a flag?

You know what really ticks me off? I live in Winston, and we don't have lights illuminating our American flags at night, as is asked by the US flag code. And these are the "public" flags, in front of the courthouse, corpering square, etc.

Now, people can get all bent out of shape about a flag that doesn't represent all of us. Maybe you should get bent out of shape about the disrespect shown to the same flag these Veterans proudly served under.

Or, maybe you should realize, that we do stand for principles, for values. These are not christian values, or christian principles, these are the principles and values of human decency.

We have a separation of church from the state for a reason, maybe the founders thought we as Americans were smart enough and decent enough to have values without having to rely on a supernatural being. Let's prove them right.

You must have missed the memo. The memorial was built to honor the Stokes County soldiers, whose names are engraved on the mounument its self. Stokes County hasn't seen thousands, they just know of one. This memorial was not commissioned by the Federal Gov. or even the city of King. It came from the American Legion Post 290 six years ago. The pavers have beens sold to people who knew the flag was there and had no complaints. Also, from what I have seen in links posted by another poster the majority of the posters to the military newspaper are saying to leave it up.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe a poll was done that state every single person was Christian at the founding of our country. We do know our country was formed by a diverse group of people from all parts of this world and not all parts of the world were of the Christian faith. In fact our county was founded on FREEDOM of and from RELIGION. What do not understand about that fact? Yes, we all have freedom to express our religion, but not to impose it upon others as if it is the only one or way. If we do, whose form of religion do we follow? Which preacher is the right preacher?

Do you people not get it?

If we do go on the premise that the City Council can put up any Flag they wish and force their religious beliefs upon all Citizens of King can they then say they do not want Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and anyone of non white race live within the city limits? Why not push that belief on other, because many of them feel that way?

When would it stop? When each WASP has their way upon others?

Do you not see the hypocrisy and bigotry of your statement and thoughts?

Back to the real issue is the Honoring of ALL VETERANS OF ALL RELIGIOUS BELIEFS!

Do you not Honor all Veterans of all Faiths that serve and have served or are you a Bigot?
