City Council and mayor are all Cowards , If you dont stand up to these people you can kiss King Goodbye. Stand up for God, you will be rewarded, someday you will have to answer as to why you didnt stand up for your principles. You are Godless Cowards City Of King ,Pathetic ,Puny, Wimps.

It"s obvious that those who voted for removing the flag did not believe that God would deliver. They should have joined Mr Carter in his stand against the ACLU. Just another example of our Christian values being attacked by the forces of evil.

It is now our responsibility to vote accordingly next election.

Spare me.

Fundamentalist Christians run afoul of the Establishment clause because they feel they have to push their religion into the governmental, public arena.

So the Constitution of the United States is evil? Do tell.

idiot.

In defense of the mayor and city council, they can go into a law suit with the government. The town of king will lose hudreds of thousands of tax payer's money. They will no doubt lose in court. You are asking to blow taxpayer money. Have you asked every citizen of king if they want their money to go to court knowing they will lose? When is the last time you have had a government official come into your church and home to stop you from believing in god? Never! On government property, yes! Why, because of separation of church and state. Why is this so hard to understand?

Simple solution:

Put up a Jewish, Islamic, and Morman flag too. Problem solved.

The establishment clause merely prevents the government from endorsing a particular religion.

Because hypocrisy and myopia are prerequisites to being fervently religious.

We were thinking about traveling in your part of the state for our vacation and stopping in your town. That won't be happening. There's nothing in a town that turns its back on God and the majority of its people worth seeing. I hope your constituents remember this at electiion time and vote in decent patriots rather than keep the worms you presently have.

Because that would never satisfy these bigots...they want THEIR WAY..no other..Try to hang a Catholic, Jewish, or other flag there and see what happens or how long it stays up...That is the baptist way....Judge everyone, and never judge ourselves....Bigots, bigots, bigots...

@Tamerlane - please explain - precisely - how a flag in a memorial is a violation of the constitution? Perhaps you are not familiar with our constitution - I'll help you out:

******
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
******

I'm a staunch defender of the first amendment - I don't want religious leaders ruling this land either. That said,
a flag is not a law, however enacting a ruling to remove a flag which is a symbol to those memorialized seems to be a direct violation.

Rulings like this fire up the religious zealots - and make people like me more sensitive to their plight and definitely alienate me from "church separators"

I'll help YOU out. Start reading all the cases interpreting the FIrst Amendment, they are law too you know.
Reading the text of the amendment is only the beginning of understanding the law, there is a lot more to it than that. If you are a staunch defender of the First, then you ought to do some homework about how it is applied in 21st century America.
BTW, the flag may or may not be illegal. The flag per se is not my beef here - but the ignorance and prejudice of these so-called Americans and so-called Christians certainly is.

Thank you King Citizen. I will do a blog post on this. Geeez. This is how Christians act? Threatening and kicking and screaming, and calling people names?

Wow. What a handsome display.
