Goforth aims to 'make a difference'

Even though 2012 was an election year for five of the seven seats on the Colonial Beach Town Council, the council begins the new year with only a few changes. Full Story

Cut the fat Wanda. This Town has to much management. Start at the top.

Wanda made plenty of observations prior to being elected, now we'll see the truth. Best of luck, it's hard for one person, hopefull the other have been waiting.

I second that! I think she will be a good addition and maybe this whole council will be a good fit.

Wanda has been late for most of the meetings since she has been elected and invited before her election -- so let's see if she'll make the meetings on time. Go girl and be on time.

I agree with Beach Taxpayer. Start w/ Town Manager, then look at all the layers of management in the Police Department and Public Works. Lots of well-paid chiefs, and few indians.

Wanda will do a great job! I have always found her easy to work with and she has a lot of previous experience.

I am pleased to see how the new group of Town Elders has come together.

Lets support all of them.

I don't think Mama (Val) will have her back - there's no love lost between the two of them!! Hopefully Wanda will have more nerve than the men on Council and put Val in her place!!! Mama only protects those who cover for her.

Hopefully Wanda and the entire Council will do the right thing for this Town, and send Val packing. We need a real, experienced, professional Town manager in charge. This joke has gone on long enough. If we are going to pay that kind of money, at least hire someone qualified.

1. Val has been town manager for how long now? I'd say she has experience and that argument is no longer valid.

2. Where are you going to get your next person? Salary is low, town moral is very low, no money for town improvements, infrastructure is falling apart, etc. Anyone with kids will shy away from this area because schools are poor and town has nothing to offer. Who in their right mind would take that job?

I say leave Val in, but give her a serious talking to and specific instructions as far as her authority and responsibilities/accountabilit y with constant monitoring by council. She works for the council, not herself.

As far as her not living in town...we do not require any employee to live in town, only elected officials. Give that one a rest!

Your name certainly fits! Why don't you apply for job as Val's assistant, you would be perfect.

salary is low? hers isn't.$100k is pretty nice. you want to talk about low salaries? how about PW? townspeople would be shocked if they really knew what the guys on the garbage truck made, for working in weather from one extreme to another. and the guys who cut the grass around town and do their best to make the town look nice. only department heads and supervisors make ridiculous money. if val really cared about our town, and the town council for that matter, they should go talk to the town employees and find out just how low salaries and moral really is

Val's salary is over $100,000. You could at least get someone who isn't afraid to drive around town at look at the mess for that price. When was the last time she showed her face anywhere other than towon hall and government meetings?

Hence the need for the Town Council to do their jobs and supervise her.

What is the salary of the PW guys? Anyone know? What is it compared to other areas?

Most of PW makes under $10 / hour.
