The prospect of gas deposits in the Upper Northern Neck and the Middle Peninsula would bring much needed high paying employment to an area that has been in decline for decades. In the event that natural gas was discovered the region would require major infrastructure improvement to support transporting the gas to major pipelines. Could be a boom for West Point, the closest railhead in the region and Colonial Beach, the last deep water port for ships going north on the Potomac River.
