I was so bored with the long gaps in the parade and the 6 hispanic dancer and music groups.

If it was on tv, i would have flipped the channel. I was forced to watch and listen to it.

A few kind suggestions:

1) Move all the PC and cultural stuff to a cultural parade.
2) Limit the number of same type entries. How many red pumper fire trucks do I need to wave at?
3) Attract new & fun entries.
4) Tell the Baton throwers to practice. Lots of drops. Many walked just carrying the baton. If they dont want to participate, have them sit down. Too many little ones just rode. Years ago we would have amazing and fantastic baton teams and everyone participated.
5) Eliminate sexist Miss Colonial beach contest and forcing the girls to ride through town. They are not objects. Treat them so.\
6) The signs on the cars are impossible to read. I accidentally waved to a town councilman (who is awful) that I thought was a real estate agent.
7) We shouldnt pay for police to do this parade. volenteers should stand in the street.
8) The sirens on police and fire are too loud. They sit at the corner of Col. ave and make a racket. They should toot once every 15 minutes only.
9) No religious entries. I heard once about separation of those things. Lets do it.
10)Big One: The sidwalk in front of homes on the parade route should bre reseved for the owner. All sorts of people come sit on the curb, the walk, and even on owners lawns. So where can owners sit?

Once again, just a few suggestions.

You should take your suggestions to Carey Geddes the President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Board of Directors at their next meeting. The Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor of the Potomac River Festival. The Chamber is ALWAYS looking for new ideas and VOLUNTEERS to help with the event. I am sure they would be more than glad to get your help.

Good idea you can be in charge of coordinating a cultural parade. Not difficult for someone with your talent I am sure.
2) Limit the number of same type entries. How many red pumper fire trucks do I need to wave at?
Again, sure parade committee could use your skills to coordinate this effort.
3) Attract new & fun entries.
This one is really easy since all these new and fun entries are just dying to use their gas and time to come to our town for free to entertain appreciative people such as yourself.
4) Tell the Baton throwers to practice. Lots of drops. Many walked just carrying the baton. If they dont want to participate, have them sit down. Too many little ones just rode. Years ago we would have amazing and fantastic baton teams and everyone participated.
YOU TELL THEM. YOU ARE SO TACTFULL AT THIS TYPE OF THING.
5) Eliminate sexist Miss Colonial beach contest and forcing the girls to ride through town. They are not objects. Treat them so.\
I'm sure these young ladies will really appreciate your contribution. Don't give your address unless you like eggs.
6) The signs on the cars are impossible to read. I accidentally waved to a town councilman (who is awful) that I thought was a real estate agent.

Put you glasses on. Might help a bit.
7) We shouldnt pay for police to do this parade. volenteers should stand in the street.
Why Don't you stand in the street with a sign identifying yourself.
8) The sirens on police and fire are too loud. They sit at the corner of Col. ave and make a racket. They should toot once every 15 minutes only.
I hope your house never catches on fire.
9) No religious entries. I heard once about separation of those things. Lets do it.
Oh no, now you've pissed off The Lord.
10)Big One: The sidwalk in front of homes on the parade route should bre reseved for the owner. All sorts of people come sit on the curb, the walk, and even on owners lawns. So where can owners sit?
Did the owners pay for the sidewalk?
Once again, just a few suggestions.

Margaret,
I would like you to air your concerns to a local business leader who is active in town politics.

Rick might be Able to put you in touch with the right people.

Regarding parade goers sitting on the curb in front of your house. That's allowed.

Now if people are filling up your lawn or driveway, leaving trah, etc you might talk to the town.

Hey, it's one day a year. Can you look the other way or better yet set up your own chairs to save your spots?
That's allowed.

I met Margaret once when I was a kid... my baseball rolled into her lawn and the horrid, wretched woman kept it... actually she ate it! She has 30 cats and screams at inanimate objects. Her kids and grandkids hate her.. they never visit. Could be why she's so bitter.

This may be the most ridiculous of complaints ever heard. The sirens were too loud, there were too many firetrucks, the baton throwers weren't good enough, get rid of the beauty pagent because its showcases girls....seriously, none of these complaints should warrant change. Having these parades showcases the community we bring together. If you don't like council members, it's probably a good idea to know what they look like. The sidewalk is public property, put out cones for yourself or whatever. No religion in the parade? This town has soo much religion how could it not be included to some degree. Next thing you know, she will be complaining the fireworks display on 4th of July should be changed because it's too loud and bright.

I think she is harsh but could have some valid concerns.

The gaps were evident and the noise might bother some residents.

Lets not demonized her.

Ok?

1) Move all the PC and cultural stuff to a cultural parade.

Why? it is a grand feature parade, if we remove all that, we have three commercial vehicles and a majorette group.

2) Limit the number of same type entries. How many red pumper fire trucks do I need to wave at?

It is the Fire and Rescue parade, it is supposed to be full of fire trucks. If you don't like it, you can skip Friday night.

3) Attract new & fun entries.

How? Please tell us how to do this.

4) Tell the Baton throwers to practice. Lots of drops. Many walked just carrying the baton. If they dont want to participate, have them sit down. Too many little ones just rode. Years ago we would have amazing and fantastic baton teams and everyone participated.

They are little kids and it is hot as hell many PRF weekends.

5) Eliminate sexist Miss Colonial beach contest and forcing the girls to ride through town. They are not objects. Treat them so.\

I'd love to do that, but it will not go over well in this town.

6) The signs on the cars are impossible to read. I accidentally waved to a town councilman (who is awful) that I thought was a real estate agent.

Some signs do need to be worked on.

7) We shouldnt pay for police to do this parade. volenteers should stand in the street.

It is a town activity, the police should be part of it. Why should they not be part of a town activity?

8) The sirens on police and fire are too loud. They sit at the corner of Col. ave and make a racket. They should toot once every 15 minutes only.

Ear plugs. Or stay indoors.

9) No religious entries. I heard once about separation of those things. Lets do it.

Last I checked religious entries were fine in parades.

10)Big One: The sidwalk in front of homes on the parade route should bre reseved for the owner. All sorts of people come sit on the curb, the walk, and even on owners lawns. So where can owners sit?

I'm sorry, but the sidewalks are town property, not homeowner property. Anyone has the right to sit on them.
Thanks
